Subtlety

Happy Monday!

Today I want to share another video from poet/singer/songwriter Tanya Davis. In this spoken word performance, Davis tells why she feels we should never repress our true selves. "Subtlety," she says, "is just never gonna be my specialty"—and perhaps it shouldn't be ours, either. Tanya's words not only inspire me but put me in the mood to create. I hope you find some inspiration in this video as well.

Wishing you all a beautiful and creative Monday. ☺

  2. Hmmmmm....and I thought I had the OverDoNess Market cornered! Well done Tanya...nice voice and well spoken...not an easy prose to recite. Nice way to start a Monday, Dana!

  3. I'm only good at subtlety if I'm mad at someone ;)

I like the poem! Good inspiration to kick off the week. Happy Monday!

  4. That was quite a commentary! Subtlety is tough. If you're an open person, it's hard to block off your heart and not let people see it.

    1. That's so true. And if you open yourself up and keep getting burned, then you might try to stifle that very important part of who you are, and that's not good either...

  5. That is a wonderful piece. And, I confess, I can be circumlocutiously subtle, if I really have to be.

But the truth is, as you know, I'm a Bear. My nature is to be as subtle as a sledge hammer with all the finesse of a canal horse.

    1. That's what I like about it, too. I envy the people (like Davis) who can do it well.

Hope you had a great Monday.

  7. Wow, I can totally relate to this. As a matter of fact, I was just thinking about this concept earlier today.

  9. I'm a very blunt person, but I'm also an incredibly shy person and its insanely hard to make me talk. Which is a bit ironic because I have a blog.

  11. Sometimes I try so hard to be subtle in my writing that some things go unnoticed. It's a fine line to walk. Happy Monday to you too!

    1. You're right: it is a fine line. I find myself doing the same thing in my writing.

  12. Funny, how I have always considered subtlety to be a virtue which I lack. It is a new idea for me that it may be overrated...

    1. That's what I like about Davis's poetry: it gives the listeners something to think about. :)

  13. I try my very best to be as subtle as can be...it's in my nature to be that way.
