Awww...

Happy Monday, friends!

This cookie jar makes me smile. My mom kept it for many years and then passed it on to me. It was hand-painted in Japan and features a big, cheery grin that brightens my day. I finally set it out on the kitchen counter last week. The kids love it—but now they want me to bake more cookies! ☺

Today I'm linking up with Awww...Mondays, a meme in which bloggers post photos that make them say Awww. You can find out more here.

Wishing you all a great Monday!

  1. Ahh, that is cute. My mom had a Cookie Monster cookie jar. I don't know if she still has it.

Idon't see cookie jars very often anymore. I think if we had one the kids would be in there all the time.

    1. Aside from at my sister's house (she collects cookie jars), I don't see them around much either. I like the apple one because it's old and has family history, but otherwise, I don't seek them out.

      Have a great week!

  3. My kids were horrified to find that a casualty of my Mom's downsizing into a smaller house was that certain things they have grown up looking at in "Grandma's kitchen" didn't fit in the new house and had to go. I am now the owner of a weird set of salt and pepper shakers (without stoppers so they are purely for looks) and a chipped blue plate my kids brought home from Grandma's give away box. I told the kids I was just going to hold their treasures until they move out and have their own places, but I can tell these things will be part of my own "Grandma's kitchen". It turns out I am pretty okay with that!

    1. That's a great story! My parents are downsizing right now too, and each time I visit, I snag a few more symbols of my childhood that I can't imagine never seeing again.

  13. Cookie jars were a cherished tradition when I was growing up! My mom had a big red ceramic apple cookie jar that was replenished with fresh-baked cookies every Saturday, a task I loved helping with... and eating them even more! I don't have one in my house now, there wouldn't be a point. If I bake them, we eat them until they've all disappeared... needless to say, I don't make cookies very often, and if I do I package most of them up to mail to my kids! I recently went into a cafe that had an apple cookie jar just like my mom's on the shelf... made me smile, just as yours did. Thanks for the great memory! :-)

    1. Thanks for your comment, Josie. Cookie jars say "home" to me. I, too, have a lot of good memories of cookie-filled cookie jars. It was always such a treat when mom would let us reach our hands inside and pull out our favorite chocolate chip cookies. I miss those days.

      Have a happy Monday!

  16. What a classic, vintage jar! Brings back memories for me too. You could put tea bags in it, just use it for general food stuffs, macaroni, oatmeal. It doesn't have to be a temptation! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Good point! Now how to break it to the kids that the cookie jar will be holding macaroni instead of macaroons... ;)

  17. That's a great jar..reminds me of those old cartoons from the 50's. I have a 28 year old cookie jar sitting atop my cupboards. I can't bear to part with it, because once I have grandkids, it's coming down to the counter again! :) Hopefully that won't be too long from now!
