Six-word Saturday

My new career: driving the kiddies.

Maybe I should say that's the title of my life's movie: Driving the Kiddies. You know—like Driving Miss Daisy? ☺ My kids are only four and six, and already they have social commitments and classes and people to see and things to do. My son has been taking karate for the past three weeks, and my daughter starts dance class on Monday. I feel as though I spend most of my time in the car and in stuffy gyms, waiting—always waiting. I might even be starting to forget what my house looks like! And this is only the beginning...

However, as frustrated as I sometimes get about all this driving, you know what? It's part of my job as a mom, and I wouldn't have it any other way. ♥

Wishing you all a fun and relaxing Saturday. ☺

  1. Hi Dana ~~ I loved that movie, we just watched it on TV again.

You won't regret any of the trips you are making but you sure will be glad when they are old enough to drive themselves or be able to take public transportation by themselves. I speak this as a father of five, all of whom have passed into adulthood.

  2. Yes, driving kids around is a big part of what we as moms do. My oldest is 32 and my youngest is now 17 so I've been doing the kiddie chauffeur for over three decades. My youngest has his learner's permit now (but not his full license - because we make our kids have jobs so they can pay insurance before they get their full driver's license) so at least now I get to sit in the passenger's seat sometimes. Have a great Saturday.

  3. I'm in the same boat ..got 3 little ones to drive around. It's a rewarding career in the long run! Even in a short run come to think of it. --Seeing those kids happy, well, it's a fantastic feeling and you made it happen by getting them there!

    1. You're exactly right: seeing my kids happy takes away the frustration of feeling like I'm in the car all the time.

      Have a great weekend. ☺

  4. Now why don't they make that movie - Mom, the Taxi Driver. Those busy years pass so quickly. Hold the joy and frustration in both hands.

  5. Happily that's Mick's job- I don't drive, but did a lot of foot slogging back in the day! It gets no better- Mick often drops our 23 year old off in town at 11 in the evening to go drinking with his mates.
Bet you're writing today, Dana. Enjoy! :)

Thanks! I'm doing a little writing and a little studying for my Coursera class. Enjoy your day, too.

  8. My private high school was 30 min away, but my folks drove me every morning (took the train home in the afternoon) --- captive in the car it was the perfect atmosphere for keeping in touch and having conversations we might not otherwise have had.

    Enjoy the ride :)

  13. All that waiting...I always took my crochet with me. Do you have something that helps occupy that time?

    1. Yes, I bring a book to read and a notebook to write in. I never know when inspiration will strike. :)

  14. Instead of time wasted, it's time gained to write - grab a notebook and go for it!

  15. I agree with Annalissa. A notebook and netbook are handy when waiting.

I'm grateful for my parents taking me places, whether it was walking or on the subway or in the family car.

    1. I agree with you both. Great idea!

I feel the same way about my parents. My mother didn't drive, and my dad worked all day, so they had to come up with creative ways to get my sister and me to our activities. I'm sure it took some doing, but I really appreciated it—then and now. ☺

  20. You know how I combat the frustration of adding "chauffeur" to the never-ending, poly-hyphenated job description I carry? I made my car the most comfortable place in the world and took up piano lessons. The lessons weren't because I have so much extra time on my hands, but I figured - while I'm waiting for little man to have his lesson, I may as well learn a new skill too!!

I just passed my exam and am moving into grade three!!

    Happy 6WS!!

  21. Ah yes the decade of chauffeur mom detail, I remember it not so lovingly. Bit hey, after that you have the terrifying years of them driving themselves. Lucky that only lasts half a decade. I used the time waiting constructively writing.

    1. Yikes! You're scaring me! ;)

I try to write or read while I wait, but honestly, most of the time, I end up trying to entertain the child who isn't taking lessons at the time. :)

  22. My husband reminds our daughters of how much driving we did for them growing up, and then he always adds, "So when I get old and need to get to doctor appointments, I don't want to hear any complaining."

  23. Hello Dana

Late on my SWS visit back this week and your post just made me realize how being mom is the hardest work in the world and I need to call mine to thank her, because we never wait for her when we were kids. I'm sure you could manage something while you're waiting, you have so many things to do. Thanks for your wishes dear !
