Thursday yeas and nays

Beautiful fall!
Happy Thursday, friends.

Thursday always feels like a wild card day to me. It's one of the two days each week when my daughter doesn't go to preschool, and it's also different from most of the other days because I don't have a set schedule to follow. It's almost a free day! As I was thinking about the things I need/want to get done today, I came up with this list of yeas and nays—and I learned that I can always find a lot of good if I take the time to look for it: ☺

Project Runway All-Stars is on tonight. Yea!

♥ I'm way behind on my NaNoWriMo project, but I'm still plodding along. Yea!

♥ I have to write the store list for our weekly grocery shopping trip. Nay.

♥ My daughter and I are going to the library today. Yea!

♥ Yesterday's weather was beautiful, so I took the kids outside to play after school. Today, however, it's gray and rainy—not an outdoor playday at all. Nay.

♥ On the other hand, back home they already have snow, so I guess a little rain is just fine—and the leaves are still pretty. Yea!

♥ I'm almost finished with the book I'm reading, so soon I'll be able to move on to one I've been waiting to read for a while, Ted Kooser's Sure Signs: New and Selected Poems. Yea!

We can find them if we look: rainbows and silver linings!
♥ Since I cooked so much this week and have tons of leftovers, I don't have to make dinner tonight. Yea!

♥ Mount Laundry is waiting for me downstairs. Nay.

♥ Today is a new day to get things right. Yea!

How about you? What are your Thursday yeas and nays?

Wishing you all a wonderful day. ☺

T is for (Reality) TV

Happy Tuesday!

I love reality TV—good reality TV. I'm talking about the kinds of shows that feature people who are working toward obtaining a serious goal, something they've dreamed about doing for most (if not all) of their lives. Some of my favorites are Top Chef, Project Runway, the now-canceled Work of Art: The Next Great Artist, The Voice, and American Idol. The men and women participating in these shows have dreams—to be a great chef or fashion designer, to become the next big thing in the art world, to rise to the top of the music charts—and I admire their determination to go through whatever obstacles they must go through to make those dreams come true.

(Now if only they made a reality show about writers working toward book contracts. I would definitely tune in to that!)

How about you? Do you watch any reality shows? What do you like (or dislike) about them?

The following video clip is from The Voice. It features Judith Hill, just one of the singers hoping to make her dream come true.

My daily haiku is up at the Pulitzer Remix site. You can find it here. Many thanks to those of you who have been taking the time to read and comment. I'm very grateful for your support!

Wishing you all a fantastic Tuesday. ☺

Five things I learned yesterday

"What did you learn today?"

I ask my son that question every day when he gets home from kindergarten, and since he's only five, he actually answers me—although I suspect that when he gets a little older, the always-popular "nothing" will be his go-to response. ☺

Yesterday, as he told me about all the things his teacher had taught him, I started to think about the things the day had taught me. Although my new knowledge might not be as exciting as my son's, I do learn a few things every day. Yesterday taught me that:

1. I don't have to give up on a recipe like this one just because I'm out of cream of mushroom soup. Instead, I can make my own. It's easy to do, and there's no worry about canned soup and BPA.

2. Sometimes it's just too cold outside to make the effort to go to the grocery store, even if I really, really want chocolate.

Squirrel?
3. It's fun to discover animal tracks in the snow. (My kids taught me this one!)

4. It's heartbreaking to see a Facebook friend receive happy birthday messages from people who don't realize that she recently died.

5. The new season of Project Runway starts tonight! (I'm a little excited. Can you tell?)

What things have you learned recently?

Wishing you a wonderful Thursday!
