Happy Sunday, friends!
I hope you're having a great weekend.
The creator of this video saw this picture of birds sitting on wires and decided to make a song, using the locations of the birds as notes. The result was quite remarkable. Enjoy!

Currently...
I've seen this fun idea on several people's blogs this week—like here at Katy Upperman's and here at Jessica Love's—so I thought I'd take the opportunity to post my own "Currently..." update today.
Loving: The two hours of quiet time I have each day when my daughter takes her nap and my son is at school. I'd forgotten how peaceful the house could be.
Reading: Jen Lancaster's memoir Bright Lights, Big Ass: A Self-Indulgent, Surly Ex-Sorority Girl's Guide
to Why It Often Sucks in the City, or Who Are These Idiots and Why Do They All Live Next Door to Me? I've read all but Lancaster's newest memoir—I'm on the hold list for that one—and have loved them all. She's laugh-out-loud funny, and I can never resist her crazy, extra-long titles!
Watching: Greek. I'm almost finished with season one and can't wait to watch the rest. I'm well past my school years, but I still love watching shows about college. Those were the days!
Thinking about: The fact that I've been too tired to write since my son started school. I've been getting up at 5 a.m. to pack his lunch and have a cup of coffee. Then it's go, go, go all day until I collapse into bed at night. One of these days I'll get it together enough to write during that two-hour span when my daughter naps, but so far all I've wanted to do is take my own nap.
Anticipating: The season premiere of Gossip Girl. (October 8!)
Wishing: That I could figure out an important plot point in my WIP.
Making me happy: The fact that my son LOVES kindergarten. ☺

That moment

I had to teach News Writing that morning, and I drove to work early, hoping for a cup of coffee and some quiet prep time. No one was in the newsroom when I arrived, and I settled at my desk to review my notes. Then one of my students appeared in the doorway: "A plane just hit the World Trade Center." I remember feeling confused; my brain couldn't process his words, and it took a moment for me to comprehend, although as I look back now, I'm not sure I've ever understood. The student left, and I abandoned my office and walked to the cafeteria, in sudden, desperate need of company and familiarity.
What are your memories of that terrible moment?

I'm in love with this short stop-motion video featuring A Fine Frenzy's "Sleepwalking." It's creative and magical and beautifully done. Enjoy!

Indeed, it's a wonderful world
My five-year-old son climbed aboard the school bus and roared off to kindergarten today, and although I did shed a tear at his impatient "I want to go now," I'm doing surprisingly well at the moment. My three-year-old and I spent the morning running errands, picking up library books, and baking brownies. She's now taking her nap, and I'm glad to have two hours to myself. I don't plan on doing much—no laundry or dishes or other chores. Instead, I think I'll read and celebrate the fact that I'm making it through the day. And you know what? I'm happy. ☺
Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" has always held special meaning for me, and the lyrics have been going through my mind most of the day. I love this video. Armstrong's smile is infectious—who could feel anything but happy?

Ten things I'm thinking about today

♥ My new book idea. It came to me over the weekend. I can't wait to get started!
♥ Procrastination. Hmm, I guess it probably is my fault that my son is out of underwear again...
♥ Avocados. I really want one.
♥ The dreaded treadmill. I hate the thing, but I promised myself I'd start using it again, beginning today. Think of me.
♥ Kindergarten. My five-year-old starts on Thursday. *cry*
♥ Hair. I wish I had this style again.
♥ This song. I love the eighties!
♥ Greek. I just started watching it on Netflix. Fun show!
♥ This book. So far, I'm loving it.

Sunday inspiration
Happy Sunday!
How's your weekend been so far? After a long day yesterday—six hours of car travel and a visit with my in-laws—I'm back home and ready to relax.
Today's inspiration is something a little unusual: a short video about a man who can draw perfect circles freehand. I find this fascinating! No matter how much I were to practice, I doubt I could draw like this. How about you? Have you ever tried?
Enjoy your day!
