Six-word Saturday

Elation: Clerk thought I was underage!

I rarely buy alcohol, but last night I stopped by a liquor store to pick up some wine. Unlike the local grocery stores, the liquor stores don't automatically card everyone who makes a purchase, and I was thrilled when the clerk asked me for my license! Last year I had a pretty big birthday, and I had assumed that I would never be carded again. The smile on my face when I walked out of the store was huge, and it lasted the rest of the night!

Wishing you all a weekend filled with unexpected happiness!

  2. I will be 45 in a couple months, and I still get carded - drives my husband nuts because he'll be standing right next to me! :D

  3. I'm going in the opposite direction. Last year I was asked in a Blacksburg, Virginia Hardees if I wanted the "Senior" discount. I was quite taken aback and replied, "NO!!" (I'm not old enough...yet).
When I told Mrs. Penwasser, she let me have it. "You mean you REJECTED a discount??? What's wrong with you??"
From now on, I'll take a discount when I get it.
This summer, I turn 55 and will be able to get a discount at the Bob Evans in Milford, Delaware. You better believe I'm gonna go get me some cheap eggs.

    1. Like you, as soon as I qualify for the senior discount, I'm going to take it. Funny how that works...

  4. A very nice boost for the old ego :) You do look quite young... The last time I was carded was in my early 30's - my mom, sister & I were headed into the theatre. Like you, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face!

    1. Thanks. :)

I had to go grocery shopping after this happened, and the people in the store must have thought I was nuts when they saw that grin spread all over my face!

  8. My hubby was carded even after he was a father to 3 kids. He let his hair go grey and now I send him to buy tickets because he gets the senior's discount automatically.

  10. My office mate, who claims she's a prety good judge of age, underaged me by 12 years yesterday--and I don't think she was just being kind because she seemed genuinely surprised when I told he I'm soon to be 62.

I don't WANT the damned Senior Discount!

  15. love the new blog look Dana! Good for you to get carded!! I remember my husband last got carded when he was about 39 years old, LOL; he went to the store first thing in the morning to get some things I needed for that certain time of the month (good guy he is) and got some beer since it was a Saturday and they carded him. He was so excited when he came home and told me. I always looked older than I was so even before I was 21 and out where I shouldn't have been (those were the good old days when they didn't routinely card, LOL) I rarely got carded. Son has a "baby" face and we figure he'll be carded into his 30's.

    Enjoy the feeling!!

and have a great rest of the weekend!

  17. That is very exciting! Unfortunately, hasn't happened to me in a long, long time. I blame the kids for aging me.

  19. On the rare times I still get carded I know the ABC people are probably on the premises, but it is a real confidence booster for a few seconds! :)

  20. That's happened to me too a few times after I hit thirty. Not so much now I'm getting closer to 40 though.

And then you've got the opposite. Like the other day I was in the library young adult section. And this teen girl says, Excuse me ma'am and then asks me a question.

I appreciated her politeness, but I sighed inwardly. Ma'am. Why can't they come up with a new word that means Ma'am, but that isn't Ma'am? I'd settle for Miss, but a new word would be even better.
