Six-word Saturday

Wait. Am I a kid again?

This week's below-freezing temperatures sure made it feel that way. I've never been much of a fan of snow and cold. As a kid in Michigan, no matter how bundled up I was, I would still freeze my nose and toes and hands each morning as I waited for the school bus. When I graduated from high school, I was happy to leave those days of ice-cold bus-stop-waiting behind. Flash forward many years to the present, and here I am, freezing all over again each morning as I wait for the bus with my kindergarten son.
Life's funny, huh? ☺

Wishing you all a warm and cozy weekend!

    1. Haha! Love that!

Our bus stop is a half a block away, with no place to park. I wish I could drive there. :)

  3. Pick up for my 1st grader is the pretty much the same - sitting in the heated car because it's bitter cold outside.

  4. We actually took our car out yesterday instead of walking because it was so cold.

  5. You're a great parent. Many kids are just booted out in the morning, by parents who don't even notice if they're properly dressed.

    1. I appreciate that. Thank you.

My son is only almost-six, and he doesn't really want me to wait with him, but despite the cold (and later, the heat—I don't like that much either), I plan on standing at the bus stop for many more years. It's a scary world.

  6. I remember doing the same thing but luckily we don't get that cold here in WA we just get wet. All. The. Time.

  7. Too funny.... life does go full circle. Even though I moved away from home at 19 I found that I ended up back there with three small children. It ended up that they went to the same middle school and high school that I had attended... go figure!

  9. Oh my, seems you have come full freezing circle! I remember those frigid days at the bus stop, too, but fortunately I had moved to south Florida later in life and waiting for the school bus with my son was a pleasure in the Sunshine state!

  10. WoW! That is something I never experienced as a kid or with my own children....I walked to school...although there was never snow it did get cold....for California, 30 degrees. My kids went with me to school for daycare and school up to 2nd grade...then they walked from home. A bus meant a field trip...or a seldom taken city buss ride.

    Happy Weekend!

  11. It's funny how we so often end up doing the things we swore we'd never do again once we were "grown up"! Warmer weather in just a few more weeks!

  12. Still in Michigan...I can totally relate to your experience. I've been fortunate that past several several years the bus stop has been across the street from our house.

  18. I do not do well in cold weather either. I pretty much stay inside as much as I can when it is freezing cold! But then, as I get older I do not like extreme heat either...so I guess I am a "fair weather" person! (:>)

    1. I would call myself a "fair weather" person, too! Like you, I'm not crazy about the cold, but I don't like those hot, hot summer days either. It's nice to know I'm not alone. :)

  19. I remember my mom taking us to the bus stop when I was growing up in Pennsylvania in the car (like two blocks away LOL) on cold winter mornings and us waiting in the car with the engine and heater running until the bus came :)

hope it warms up soon for you!

  22. Growing up in Wisconsin, I had similar experiences. My boyfriend asks me, "How could you have grown up in WI and hate the cold so much?" My answer is tht I no longer have my "marshmallow coat" which reached to my ankles.

    1. I'm familiar with the marshmallow coat! I grew up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I know the kind of cold you're talking about!

  28. I know what you mean. I literally walked one or two miles to school from third grade through high school and when it was cold or rainy or hot - I was still there walking. I love parking in my warm garage and leaving home with my boys in an already warm car after years of parking in apartment parking lots or just in the street or driveway and getting into a car that was barely warm by the time I got to work. It's the little things in life that are lovely. And cozy warm.
