An apology

Hi, friends.

I apologize that this week I don't have a Friday Fun post ready for you. Things have been sad around my house since Wednesday, when my nearly 19-year-old dog passed away. I had her for almost 14 years and am devastated by her loss. My heart feels empty without her.

I will try very hard to post my Sunday Inspiration this weekend. Until then, though, I will probably continue to be MIA from the blogosphere. I know you'll understand that I need the time to heal. Thanks, friends.

Wishing you all a happy weekend. ☺

  8. Wow! 19 years is a lot for a dog! I am so sorry you lost your pup. I remember you telling me some time ago that it was close but that was what, a year ago?

  10. I don't have a dog but I feel your pain. I had 2 cats, Persia and Isaih, both of whom I love with every fiber of my being. I had them both since they were about 6 months old. Persia passed away 2/11 at 12 yrs of age. When I sat in the car at the pet hospital (she had liver and kidney failure) after she was put to sleep, I was crying. Then I turned on the radio and heard that Whitney Houston had passed away. So then I really cried. Now, every year someone makes note of the anniversary of Whitney's death, I think of Persia. Isaiah is now 14 years old but he still acts like a kitten. so full of life, and eating alot and being his normal self. But every day I look at him, thanking God for one more day with Isaiah.

    So sorry about your loss!

  11. Oh Dana - I am so sorry for you and your family. I know how it feels to lose such an important member of your family. We've had many pets through the years and it doesn't get any easier- sometimes I think it gets harder. We just returned from a 2 week vacation and a good friend house/cat sits for us. I missed Lucy The Cat while we were gone- she's a special member in our family. Smart and extreemly personable. Take care- we are all thinking of you.

  12. Oh my gosh, I am sorry, Dana. This is heartbreaking. Do you have some photos to share with us, instead of inspirational Sunday? I'd much rather hear about how you are feeling than anything else.

    Hugs.

  16. This is why I never wanted pets. We cried over my sister's turtle for days. What if we had had a REAL pet like a cat or dog? We'd still be in therapy. Take your time to be sad. We're not going anywhere.

  17. On my last blog post a couple days ago, I wrote a poem for my friends who had lost people they love. I also made a playlist of songs on YouTube that helped me when I went through hard times. I know it's not much and it might not be very good at all, but its there if you want it. And I'm here if you need to talk.

  19. So sorry for your loss. It's really tough when a beloved pet dies even though we know going into the relationship that they have shorter life spans. 19 years is an amazingly long life for a dog but that also means your family had more time to love and be loved and more to miss.

  20. 19 is quite the age for a dog, sorry for your loss. I lost a childhood dog right into 10th grade and I still remember the sorrow.

  21. That's a hard one--so sorry--but I guess 19 good years together will make for some lovely memories.

  26. It is so very heartbreaking to have to say goodbye to furry family members who have shared so much of life with you. It sure does leave a big hole in the house and in your heart. The hurt gets better, but the sweet memories you will cherish forever. Take your time, we mourn because we love, and we wouldn't have it any other way. ((Hugs))

  27. No need to apologize.

I get how that goes. Years ago we had to put our 17 yr old dog to sleep. I was in college, but it totally sucked cause I grew up with her. Felt the same way you are now.

The dog we have now, we've had her for the last 14 years. She's over 16 years old, and although she's getting slower and is half deaf, I'm still amazed she's that old and still acts like a puppy. But I think about how that time is getting nearer all the time. Maybe she'll make it to 19 like yours. Who knows. But whenever that time comes, I know it'll be super hard for me.

    Sending hugs your way.

  28. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Sometimes just taking a break and letting your feelings be is the best way to handle your emotions. Maybe on friday you can make your post all about your dog and the way he inspired you.

  32. I know this is late, but I am so very sorry for your loss. The furry members are family, too. You must have been a great dog mom for her to make it to 19, so I'm sure she had a wonderful life with you. Emma and Duke send tail wags and licks your way.

    1. Thanks so much, Danielle. (And thanks to Emma and Duke, too.) I still get very sad, especially when I see Sadie's things. She was my first baby.
