Sunday inspiration

Happy Sunday, friends. ☺

Today's inspiration is a fun social experiment that Duracell conducted this past winter in an effort to get strangers to interact. The company created a bus shelter with heaters powered by human connection, and for the heaters to work, strangers had to hold or touch hands in order to form a chain connecting the two sides of the shelter. In a world where people are only too ready to ignore those around them, I love the idea behind this experiment! What's your take on it?

Wishing you all a creative and inspirational Sunday. ☺

  1. Now that is interesting. Certainly gave people a different experience, for at least a few moments in a busy day.

  2. Brilliant idea! So many people go for days on end without even speaking to another human being. How great would it be if this happened for real? :-)

  3. Love it! Could have used those bus stops when I lived in UT during the coldest winter ever!
    Happy Sunday!

    1. We could use them here in Rochester too, I think. :)

      Have a great week!

  4. Fascinating experiment, Dana. The people that actually participated in this video seemed to enjoy it and seemed amazed when it actually worked. It would be interesting to see how it went at other places, did people participate? Did they do it reluctantly, that sort of thing. But very interesting!

  5. Wouldn't work in Minneapolis. The only time people admit they are cold is when it is so cold it is painful to remove your mittens.

  12. That's pretty cool. But I wonder if those people were planted there by the Duracell people to be filmed. Would regular people pay attention to the fact the holding hands would turn on the heat? And would they even want to hold hands with a complete stranger? Nice thought, though!

  13. Here from the A-Z. Strangers to interact. Hmm. Cool idea.

  14. That's so clever. There needs to be a lot more of those!

  15. Brilliant! But it would be weird to have to touch a stranger. We like our personal space here in America.

    1. Oh, I'm definitely the first to admit I need my personal space. I just wonder if the availability of these kinds of things would make any difference in this world. Who knows? :)

  18. It's an interesting idea. I like the idea of encouraging more interaction and getting people to be nice to others, but as someone who is VERY protective of my personal space, I'm not a big fan of touching (or being touched by) strangers.

    1. I definitely see your point. I'm actually the same way, but I think I'd like to experience it at least once, just to see what happens. Could stuff like this really make the world a better place?

  19. I love it! Those wouldn't quite fly in Florida, unless they were air conditioning, but I'm all for restoring the human interaction. That seems to be something we're losing in society.

  24. I love the idea of interaction, I don't know about touching though. I recognize the area, it's where I live. I can't believe I didn't hear about this!

  28. Ummmm...sounds great in theory! I worked in an office where we occasionally got together for a moment of silence where we held hands. That was all well and good until someone informed me that one of the male directors, who had happened to stand next to me a few times, didn't wash his hands when he exited the bathroom. Apparently that's not an uncommon occurrence. Knowing that, are you sure you'd want to hold a stranger's hand at a bus stop? :-)

  29. This was very cool....the idea of a human connection fueling warmth, but in Texas it would have to provide power to fans and air conditioning! Great blog!

  33. It's an interesting idea, but I probably would've had earplugs in and my nose in a book to make use of my time and catch up on my reading, and I wouldn't have even noticed what was going on around me. Probably sad, but I love reading, and I don't always get a chance at home (not as much as I'd like anyway). :-)
