Tuesday tunes

Happy Tuesday, friends.

Let's talk music! Have you ever woken up with a song running through your mind? I woke up this morning thinking about Johnny Cash's version of "Delia's Gone." I adore this folk ballad, which I think is a great example of narrative. The video is really well done, too. Just take a look at Cash's face; you can clearly see his regret as he recounts the tale of Delia's death.

What song is on your mind today?

Wishing you all a fantastic (and musical!) Tuesday. ☺

Six-word Saturday

Back in school—and loving it!

Last April, some of my poet friends told me about a wonderful free poetry course offered through Coursera, Modern & Contemporary American Poetry. I checked it out and signed up right away, and I'm looking forward to its start in September. I also signed up for some other great courses, and this week I began my first one, History of Rock, Part 2. I'm really enjoying the lectures and the discussions. It's been many years since I graduated with my master's degree—seventeen, actually. Yikes!—but I've always missed being in school, and now it's great to be back!

Have you ever taken a Coursera course? Would you?

Wishing you all a happy Saturday. ☺

This really takes me back...

Happy Tuesday!

Recently, I heard Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time," and I was immediately transported back to 1984. I was twelve and starting the seventh grade, nervous, I'm sure, about all the changes life would bring now that I was attending classes in the high school. (Our high school and junior high students shared the same building.) It was a year of many firsts: first school dance, first "boyfriend," first kiss, first taste of independence... I don't think I'd ever want to go back to those years, but I'm happy to say I lived through them. ☺

What song takes you back every time you hear it?

Wishing you all a Tuesday filled with wonderful memories. ☺

What's inspiring me today

I'm feeling creative today and inspired by so many things.

♥ This song—a reminder to seize the day.

Lyrics here.

♥ Poet Ted Kooser. I try to write every day, whether it's fiction or memoir or just a vignette about something I've seen or done. Today feels like a poetry day. One of my biggest inspirations is Ted Kooser, a poet who has the ability to see so much in the simple things in life. I adore "Tattoo." The poem he reads in this video, "Daddy Longlegs," is also one of my favorites.

♥ Today's sunrise. I wish I would have thought to take a picture. The sky was gorgeous this morning, all pink and blue stripes—absolutely beautiful and inspiring!

Sunday inspiration

Happy Sunday, friends! I hope you're having a great weekend.

The creator of this video saw this picture of birds sitting on wires and decided to make a song, using the locations of the birds as notes. The result was quite remarkable. Enjoy!

Sunday inspiration

Happy Sunday! I hope you're all having a great weekend.

In yesterday's post, I listed ten little-known facts about me, one of which is my love for Johnny Cash. Today I thought I'd post one of my favorite videos, Hurt, a remake of a Nine Inch Nails song that Cash recorded near the end of his life. I find the video inspirational: it's beautiful and sad and hopeful all at once. The images themselves, many showing a younger Cash, could tell a thousand stories. What do you see? Is there a video or song that you find particularly inspiring or intriguing?
