Packing or unpacking: which is worse?
I used to say the answer is unpacking, but today I'm going to do a 180 and claim that packing is a much more horrible task. We're leaving for our two-week vacation tomorrow, and my mind is spinning as I try to remember everything I need to do. My job is to pack my stuff, the kids' stuff, and the dog's stuff. That's a lot of stuff, so it's a good thing I'm a fan of lists! My husband, on the other hand, will be packing only his own stuff. (I like to joke about that, but I'm not sure my husband appreciates my humor. ☺.)
Remind me about this post when I'm back from my trip and complaining about having to unpack...
Wishing you all a fun and relaxing weekend. ☺
Hi Dana, ENJOY!!! ~~~ Unpacking is much easier, it takes three minutes while packing takes at least fifteen.
ReplyDeleteTo unpack (fast):
Take all clothes out and put on the bed making three piles
1. To be washed (could separated darks and lights here);
2. Clothes to be stuffed back into drawers or hung up; and
3. Everything else -- mostly bathroom stuff and souveniers.
You are welcome, Jim (on vacation/holiday too)
..
LOL Thanks for the early-morning laugh. I needed it today!
DeleteHave a great vacation. ☺
Heck no!!! Unpacking is brutal.....because it requires so many more steps.
ReplyDeletePacking: 1. get stuff 2. put in bags
Unpacking 1. take stuff out of bags 2. do laundry 3. put clean stuff away 4. when laundry is done, put that stuff away 5. find spots for the new stuff 5. contemplate what to do about the stuff you forgot on vacation
Ok.....maybe I just need a new system (and to shop less while I'm away...)
Enjoy your trip! and Happy 6WS!
I love your packing system!
DeleteMy biggest challenge is remembering everything I (and everyone else in the family) needs to bring. The old brain's not as sharp as it used to be. LOL
Thanks! Have a great weekend. ☺
My solution to both sides of the packing issue: Go Nowhere.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I think you're onto something there. :)
DeleteUnpacking for me is easy (when we're talking about a trip and not moving a household)...it all gets dumped in to the dirty laundry bins. *grin* Enjoy your trip! Stopping by from 6WS.
ReplyDeleteI love your method!
DeleteThanks, Dawn. ☺

I don't mind the unpacking. It is the packing is brutal because what if you forget something?? Hope you have a marvelous time on your vacation!!

See? That's exactly how I feel!
DeleteThanks, Kathy. Happy Saturday. ☺
I was going to say have a list but you're on top of that! Worse comes to worse ..you can get what you need there if you forgot something, right? --Enjoy your vacay!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, I can buy things there, but the darn perfectionist in me won't let me relax. LOL
Delete...relax about packing.
DeleteIt'll be worth it when you get there!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous time, Dana. :)
You're absolutely right about that. Thanks!
DeleteI definitely have to say packing is worse. I just moved into a new apartment and packing sucked. I almost enjoy unpacking. It's a chance to give things a new place/home and I get to organize. Have a fun vacation! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you when it comes to unpacking in a new house/apartment. That's fun! Putting stuff away in my same-old house? Not so much fun for me. LOL
DeleteThanks, Krista. ☺
I vote for PACKING...whether for a long or short trip...it's always a pain. Mostly because I think I have to take everything I own...just in case it turns cold, I run out of eye liner, someone breaks into my house, and it might come a hurricane in West Texas...yep, that's gonna happen. Hope you have a great vacation...and if you forgot something, you can do what my husband tells me...'Just go buy another whatever. Next time I'm going to forget a bunch of stuff...I'd lot rather go shopping that pack.

Haha! I could have written this! I'm an over-packer for sure. :)
DeleteThanks, Sue. Happy Saturday. ☺
For a vacation I don't mind packing, unpacking is worse because everything has to be washed and then put away so it seems to take forever for things to get back to normal. For moving they both suck. (Lists are the only way to go!)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a fun filled safe vacation!
I agree about moving. I've gone through all that too many times...
DeleteThanks, Tonya!
I unpack fairly quickly, so I'm going to say packing is much harder.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I need to know your secret for unpacking quickly. ;)
DeleteHappy Saturday!
Me I just throw it all in a bag and if I miss anything tough.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had your attitude. ☺
DeleteThat so funny Dana, because my post is also about packing...Well I'm sure you will find the best way to pack lightly. So if you're leaving tomorrow bon voyage dear !
ReplyDeleteGrace
Happy traveling to you as well, Grace!
DeleteDang, you're husband's got it easy.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I disagree. LOL
DeleteHave a wonderful a great vacation!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary. :)
DeleteI hate both. BUT, I have an unpacking strategy: make sure that, while on vacation, all the clothes get dirty. Don't let anything come home clean. Then you just unpack next to the washing machine...
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! It sure would make life easier. :)
DeleteEnjoy your holiday - Yep, I ask myself the same question! Nice one.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind packing. Except when I forget to pack something important.
ReplyDeleteTwo of my least favorite tasks--until I remember only so much fits in the bag, and that's it. Most of my worldly goods can be replaced at the drug store, anyway. I feel your pain, though. That is a lot of stuff. Have a great vacation!
ReplyDeleteI totally think PACKING is FAR WORSE! Wrapping things up and having to fit everything perfectly ... Unpacking usually means dumping all the clothes in the laundry.... LOL.
ReplyDeleteFor me it is worse packing!
ReplyDeleteI dislike both, but LOVE the vacation that comes in the middle. Have a wonderful time and enjoy what is left of the summer!
ReplyDeleteI definitely think packing is worse... I have an awful time trying to get everything in the suitcase to begin with, and then an even more awful time trying to get everything back in again. it seems like it never fits when I repack and I wonder how I packed in the first place. :) anyway, enjoy your vacation!
ReplyDeleteI think the packing. I always feel a bit sentimental if I'm moving to a different place. The unpacking in a new place is filled with promise.
ReplyDeleteHave a great vacation!
ReplyDeleteI am reading, just no time for commenting. Hopefully I will get back to the blogging soon. We are doing a lot of remodeling right now.
Packing is hard, for a trip. Unpacking involves laundry. Either way, they both suck!
If I try and pack without a list, I may as well skip the trip, because there would be so much stuff I'd forget, I'd go broke just trying to get what I'd left at home. Good for you and lists.
ReplyDeleteBut I'll say unpacking is worse, because, to be honest, I rarely do it... maybe a month later I'll actually completely empty the suitcase and put it away. :) It's worse, I guess, when you don't have a husband or kids looking at you funny for picking out your luggage what you want to wash so you can wear it that day.
Thanks for your comments on my blog tour. :) Writer’s Mark

ReplyDeleteYou can always buy the stuff you forgot to pack, but then you have to unpack it too. Have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteI agree, packing to go on holidays is more difficult because of the decision making involved. Whereas unpacking is just taking everything out of the bag and putting it in the washing machine. Enjoy your trip!
ReplyDeleteI don't know - they're both awful. But the reason for each of them is usually very good!
ReplyDeleteHave a great vacation!!
ReplyDeleteI do all of the packing except hubby's, and I hate when he does ask me to his because I know I'll forget something or put the wrong thing in! :)
All the pain of planning and packing will be forgotten once you get there! It just wouldn't be a vacation if there wasn't at least one basic item overlooked... like the time my husband left his extra jeans hanging on the closet door when he went on a fishing trip, and wore the same pair for several days.... they almost walked themselves to the washer when he got home! :-) Have a wonderful time!! We want pictures!!
ReplyDeletei love packing. when we get home, suitcases sit for days before i unpack, ecvept dirty clothes which are dealt with asap!
