Miscellaneous musings

'Tis the season.

Happy Tuesday!

Well, here we are in December. It's hard to believe that another year is nearly over. Now comes the rush of the Christmas season, something I never seem to be prepared for. My panic starts right about now and lasts through Christmas Eve—but I shouldn't let it. I know that somehow everything always gets done. I just have to keep reminding myself... ☺

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind, and I'm not entirely sure where they went! One thing that happened is that I didn't complete NaNoWriMo this year. Life (including the very welcome excitement of our expected baby girl!) kind of got in the way. I did, however, get some words down—more than I've written in a while—and I feel good about that accomplishment.

On an even better note, I've taken up a new form of expression: art journaling. If you've read my blog for a while, you know that I love all types of art. Art journaling takes my love of words and combines it with my love of art, and I'm having so much fun with it! I don't consider myself to be an artist at all, but with this type of journaling, the process is more important than the product, and I'm enjoying the process so much. I'm excited to see where this new passion takes me. Who knows? You might see this topic in one of my Sunday inspiration posts sometime soon.

Finally—and for no other reason than it's Tuesday—here's Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Tuesday's Gone." Wishing you all a fantastic day. ☺

  2. Is art journaling like scrapbooking? Or like collage? I loved the collage class I took ages ago and said I was going to continue along with it…but I didn't. Hmm, maybe in the new year I'll pick it up again…. :)

    1. Kind of, maybe. (Specific, huh? LOL) I do make collages in my journal sometimes, but mostly I mix media: paint, ink, drawings, words, etc. I think in the end, art journaling can be whatever you want it to be. There are lots of great art journalers out there and a ton of wonderful examples. I'm sure you could get a better answer from them. I'm rambling... ;) I hope you do pick up your collage work again. Sounds fun!

  11. I had the privilege to see Lynyrd Skynyrd at Oxford Polytech a few weeks before they were killed in the plane crash. Freebird & Sweet Home Alabama were totally awesome

  13. Out of seven years I've participated in NaNoWriMo, I've only won three times! As long as you got some writing done, you did great. And a HUGE congratulations on your expected baby girl! I was awful at keeping up with blogs this past November. I'm so excited for you and your family!

  14. I find Christmas a lot less stressful now that I'm retired, instead of serving a church. I hope you have a bit more restful Christmas this year, but still have a wonderful time.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  16. This year has flown by, Dana, and for that reason its hard for me to grasp that Christmas is a mere 3 weeks away! Thankfully I don't have many to shop for and wwe've started a new tradition of going out to dinner on Christmas with hubby's brother/wife instead of exchanging gifts so I don't even have to cook, LOL, but still I can't believe it is so close!

I am interested in learning more about your art journaling; I do hope you share it sometime, Dana, sounds fascinating.

  17. Hi, Dana,

WOW… congrats on your newest edition… How cool to be expecting a little girl for the new year…

LOVE the idea of words and art. I am an artist and love to combine the two….That's why I enjoy cover design so much.

  19. I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert years ago, and I love that song. :)

Christmas is busy, and I should panic, but I don't. It all works out in the end. :)

  20. Now I need to go google art journaling - it sounds really interesting! And Skynard just played literally in my back yard - I live next to a small amphitheater. I didn't have to pay a dime to listen to the whole concert!

  26. Everyone is saying how stressful this month is! Is that an adult thing that I don't know about? Just remember to breath and relax. Things may seem insane but it's never as crazy as it is. Just ask for help and you'll get it.
