Throwing my hat into the ring

Today is November 1, and that means it's once again time for National Novel Writing Month. I'd been debating since September about whether I would participate this year, and I finally decided to give it a go. I'm hoping to regain the writing momentum I lost several months ago. Fingers crossed!

As far as my project goes, I've decided on a chick lit idea that's been rolling around in my brain for a few weeks. Time may be an issue—isn't it for everyone?—but I'm excited to get a good start on this novel.

Are you taking part in NaNoWriMo this year? What type of book are you working on, and what are your tips for living life around NaNo? If you're not participating, what are your plans for this month?

    1. Thanks, Caitlin! I decided I'd feel lost if I didn't particpate since I've been NaNo-ing for so many years. :)

    1. Thanks, Judy. Beginnings are always the worst for me, so if I can get past today's 1,667 words, I should be okay. :)

    1. Thanks, Wendy. Right now, because of some good news I've had, I'm pretty far behind on my word count. I'm not sure yet if I'll try to catch up or just work at my own pace.

  4. Ack! I debated back and forth about whether I wanted to NaNo for the first time this year, and decided not to. I guess I still have a few hours to decide otherwise and get into the fray.. The indecision is killing me heh

  5. Good luck with NaNo, Dana! Glad to see you're doing it this year, after all. I'm revising, so no NaNo for me, but I hope you keep up and get your word counts in every day. ;)

    1. Thanks, Cathy. So far, I'm way behind on my count. That's the bad news. The good news is that my life has taken a major turn for the better! I'm not sure I'll be able to finish NaNo now, but I'm okay with that since I feel like a huge weight has been lifted. :)

  6. I'm not participating in NaNo. Too much pressure. But this morning a chick lit idea did happen to pop into my head, so I just might try to write it. :)

    1. Glad your book is going well! If you've checked your NaNo friends list, you've probably noticed that my word count hasn't changed for a few days. I'm very far behind now—and kind of freaking out about it since I've never let myself fall behind in NaNo's past—but I've had some good news that's kept me from working. I'm not sure if I'll continue with NaNo now; I'll have to see how things go. Good luck to you!

  8. A chick lit sounds fun! I'm working on a YA Urban Fantasy, which has some sci-fi elements. Confusing, but it should be fun to write! :) Good luck!

  9. Yay for NaNoWriMo! I'm doing it this year for the first time and have no idea how I'm going to manage it. Getting up early and doing an hour before work helped yesterday but I'm not sure how long that will last! Definitely a good way of getting some momentum back though. Have fun! :-)

  10. I was a weenie and decided against doing NaNo. Perhaps next year. I'll be excited to hear about your progress though, Dana!! Keep us posted and have a great time!

    1. I haven't made much progress yet, but I consider that a good thing since the reason—a turn for the better in my life—is what's slowing me down. I'm not sure I'll continue, but if I do, I'll definitely keep you posted. :)

  11. more power to ya, girl! I was thinking you might be out of power about now. You must be in western NY? Sandy has devastated so much of the east coast...it's terrible! I think I'll tackle the A-Z challenge in the spring. I'll be checking in to see how November treats you!

    1. Yes, I'm in western NY, and in my neighborhood, we didn't even have a power flicker. I'm grateful; about 27,000 people here were without power for days.

I'm not sure I'll continue with NaNo, but that's for a good reason: things have taken a positive turn in my life. :) Thank you for all your prayers.
