Five things I learned yesterday

"What did you learn today?"

I ask my son that question every day when he gets home from kindergarten, and since he's only five, he actually answers me—although I suspect that when he gets a little older, the always-popular "nothing" will be his go-to response. ☺

Yesterday, as he told me about all the things his teacher had taught him, I started to think about the things the day had taught me. Although my new knowledge might not be as exciting as my son's, I do learn a few things every day. Yesterday taught me that:

1. I don't have to give up on a recipe like this one just because I'm out of cream of mushroom soup. Instead, I can make my own. It's easy to do, and there's no worry about canned soup and BPA.

2. Sometimes it's just too cold outside to make the effort to go to the grocery store, even if I really, really want chocolate.

Squirrel?
3. It's fun to discover animal tracks in the snow. (My kids taught me this one!)

4. It's heartbreaking to see a Facebook friend receive happy birthday messages from people who don't realize that she recently died.

5. The new season of Project Runway starts tonight! (I'm a little excited. Can you tell?)

What things have you learned recently?

Wishing you a wonderful Thursday!

  1. Yes, if you think about it we realize that every day we learn something. Today I've learned to put a ceiling in the kitchen.

That's great about the ceiling. I wouldn't know where to begin. :)

  5. #4 - ouch!
Yesterday I learned that I have had OneNote forever - all the genealogy Bloggers have been touting its awesomeness for quite some time. It turns out it is included in Microsoft Office. Now I can catch up with the pack.

  7. That is a little weird when a birthday notice comes up on Facebook, and the person has passed.

    1. It's really sad, especially when other people haven't learned of the death.

    1. I went out today to get the chocolate (and some other things), and the roads were horrible. I should have stayed at home.

Sourdough bread and vinaigrette sound great!

  9. Oh no to #4. That's so terrible. I'm sorry. Animal tracks are cool but it's definitely way too cold (9 degrees here this morning-my CA blood can't take NJ!).

    1. Thanks.

It's freezing here, too. The kids wanted to play outside today. Um, no!

  11. I've been learning strange medical things in a hospital. Too bad the doctors can't speak English to the visitors. Maybe they're used to everyone being sedated anyway.

  12. That is sad about your friend that passed and people not being aware of her passing. I think it is neat how your son says what he learned today. Wait til he brings home the things he learned that he didn't learn from the teacher :)

After 35 years of doing medical transcription, almost daily I still continue to learn a new term :)

    1. My sister is a medical transcriptionist, and she says there's always a new term she needs to look up.

My son has already brought home a few friend-inspired sayings. Yikes!

    1. Are they rabbit tracks? I couldn't decide between rabbit and squirrel but guessed squirrel because we have so many of them running around. The neighbors have walnut trees. :)
