Six-word Saturday
My weekend: writing and more writing!
Next week marks the beginning of the month-long Blogging from A to Z Challenge, and while I'm ready with my theme, I'm woefully behind in writing my posts. Yikes!
Monday is also the start of National Poetry month, and I'm honored to be one of the eighty-five poets selected to participate in the Pulitzer Remix Project, which is sponsored by The Found Poetry Review. I posted about my involvement with the project last Thursday, but for those of you who didn't see that post, here's how the project works: Each of us will be creating found poetry from the eighty-five Pulitzer-prize winning works of fiction, then posting one poem each day on the Pulitzer Remix site. I'll be working with John Updike's Rabbit is Rich and have chosen to write thirty haiku. I've been having a great time writing my poems and hope to have them all ready to go by Sunday night.
If you need me this weekend, you'll know where to find me. ;)
Wishing you all a wonderful Saturday. ☺

Do you have any plans for the weekend? I know I'll be right here for part of it, trying to get ready for the first week of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. I've definitely got some work to do... ☺
Whatever your plans, I hope you have a great weekend!

Exciting news!
April is nearly here, and I know that many of us will be participating in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. Are you ready? I am—sort of. ☺ I'm looking forward to your posts. April is always a fun time in the blogosphere!
And now for my exciting news: April is also National Poetry Month, and I'm one of eighty-five poets chosen to participate in the Pulitzer Remix project, which is sponsored by The Found Poetry Review. We will be creating found poetry from the eighty-five Pulitzer-Prize winning works of fiction, and we'll each be posting one poem per day on the Pulitzer Remix site. By the end of the month, we'll have created more than 2,500 poems!
For those who are unfamiliar with the term, found poetry (as defined by POETS.org) is "the literary equivalent of a collage. Found poems take existing texts and refashion them, reorder them, and present them as poems." I've been experimenting with this kind of poetry for about a year, so I'm especially excited to have this opportunity. My source text will be John Updike's Rabbit is Rich, and I've chosen to write thirty haiku. I'll include the link to each day's poem in my A to Z posts. I hope you'll stop by. ☺
April is going to be a fun month! How is it looking for you?

Our World Tuesday
It's time once again for Our World Tuesday, a weekly meme that encourages bloggers to share images of their world. It's a great way to get a glimpse of life through the eyes of others! You can find out more about it here. Even if you don't participate, I encourage you to take a look at the intriguing photos that bloggers from around the world share each week.

I like things that are old—things that have history and a story to tell. These things don't necessarily have to be beautiful, at least by the world's definition of the term. In fact, I think beauty can often be found in places where we may never have thought to look, and it's this unexpected beauty that I'm always searching for.
I took these two photos yesterday. The peeling paint and the rusty doorknob—they have history. To me, they're beautiful.
Wishing you a day filled with unexpected beauty. ☺

Aw...
Happy Monday, friends.
This video of a puppy who sees himself in a mirror definitely earns an aw from me. Enjoy!
Today I'm linking up with Awww...Mondays, a meme in which bloggers post the things that make them say aw. You can find out more here.
Wishing you all a Monday filled with smiles. ☺

Sunday inspiration
Happy Sunday!
Today's inspiration comes from Joe Castillo, an artist who tells stories in sand. This video features Castillo's audition for the seventh season of America's Got Talent. He finished the competition in fifth place. You can find out more about Castillo and his work—including a moving memorial to those who lost their lives on 9/11—at his Web site, found here.

Six-word Saturday
Picnics on the living room floor.
At my daughter's request, this week I hosted two picnics on our living room floor, complete with a blanket and a lunch with all the trimmings. We both had a great time, and my daughter has been talking about her "special lunches" for days. I'm glad I took the time to create this memory—for both of us.
Wishing you all a joyful Saturday. ☺

A Thursday chuckle
Happy Thursday!
I don't know why, but this video made me laugh out loud this morning.
In other news, today's going to be busy. In addition to the mom stuff, I'll be working on a writing project and trying to come up with an idea for the A to Z Blogging Challenge. I'm a little worried about that last one—April is almost here!
What do you have planned for today? Whatever you're doing, I wish you a happy Thursday. ☺

Wordless Wednesday
Okay, I have to say a few words. ☺
My kindergartner son painted this picture in art class, and I'm proud to say it was one of the works chosen to be featured at a schoolwide art exhibit last week. People keep telling me I have an artist on my hands. I think so, too—but he certainly didn't get it from me!
Wishing you all a beautiful—and colorful!—Wednesday. ☺

I chose today's photo not because it's particularly beautiful but because I like the composition. It's the trunk of a tree as seen through the slats in my neighbor's fence. I like the perspective—the way either the tree or the fence stands out to the eye, depending on which one you choose to focus on.
Wishing you a Tuesday filled with unexpected surprises. ☺

Happy Sunday!
Today's bit of inspiration is a stop-motion video created by Dutch visual artist Rogier Wieland for the Moleskine company. To see more of Wieland's work, visit his Web site, found here.
It's hard to imagine the time and effort that must go into one of these videos, and that, I think, is part of what makes them so exciting to watch. Enjoy!
Wishing you a creative and inspirational Sunday. ☺

Six-word Saturday
Cat in the Hat: Oh, that...
This morning, my husband and I will be packing up the kids and heading to our local Barnes and Noble to see The Cat in the Hat and listen to some stories by Dr. Seuss. Now this isn't exactly my idea of a thrilling morning activity—especially since it's early morning—but I'm sure the kids will enjoy it. My kindergarten-age son is learning how to read, and two days ago he read Green Eggs and Ham to me. Amazing! I certainly wasn't reading in kindergarten—back in the old, old days. ;)
Our other Saturday excursion will be to the clothing stores. The kids need picture clothes, and I'm crossing my fingers that finding them will be an easy task. Hopefully, seeing The Cat in the Hat will put everyone in a good mood. ☺
Wishing you all a fun-filled and happy weekend!

Yesterday's sky was gray but beautiful. I took this picture just before the sun disappeared behind these clouds, and I felt like I had been given a glimpse of something pretty special.

Six-word Saturday
Taking day off: Mom's gone fishin'.
Well, not really. I'm not sure the kids or the hubby would be too thrilled about that. ;)
What I am doing, though, is setting aside a part of the day for me. Often, my interests take a back burner to all the other things I need to do each day—something I'm sure all parents can relate to. My projects—the things I do just for me, like writing—get pushed into whatever pockets of time I can find. I might write a paragraph while I wait for the spaghetti to cook or read while I'm folding the laundry. And while these pockets of time can be productive, today I've decided to do something different and put me on the schedule. That hour I plan to write is penciled in—and I can't wait!
Wishing you all a happy Saturday. ☺

While I was online yesterday searching for a much-needed break from reality, I came across this hilarious video about parenting and just knew I had to share it. Even if you're not a parent, I think you'll recognize these familiar parental sayings and situations and find yourself laughing out loud. Enjoy!

We had a little snow here last week, and these are just some of the perfect snowflakes that fell on my son's hat as we waited for the school bus. It's true: each one really is unique—and beautiful in all its detail!

Yesterday's sky was beautiful. The clouds looked to me like they were painted on a canvas, and I loved how the blue of the sky contrasted so starkly with the fast-moving clouds.
Seeing those clouds reminded me of this quote by Thomas Love Peacock:
"Clouds on clouds, in volumes driven,
Curtain round the vault of heaven."
Wishing you all a lovely Tuesday. ☺

Today's inspiration comes from the director known as PES (Adam Pesapane). He uses stop-motion techniques and everyday objects to create what I think are remarkable videos, including the Oscar-nominated Fresh Guacamole, which I've featured here along with another one of my favorites, Western Spaghetti. Enjoy!
