The other one about the celebrities

It's Wednesday again and time for Blog Me MAYbe's "May I ask something about you?" day. I had a great time reading your responses to yesterday's post about my encounters (and near encounters) with celebrities, and now I want to hear more. My question for you today is this:

If you could meet any celebrity, who would it be?

Since I can't go back in time (yet!) to meet Scott Speedman on that street in New York City, I started thinking about other celebrities I'd love to talk to, and although there are many, here are two that are near the top of my list:

Ozzy Osbourne: I mentioned in this post that Ozzy has always been one of my favorite singers, and he's definitely someone I'd love to meet. Here's one of his videos, a cover of The Beatles' "In My Life." I chose it because I like how it features so many photographs and images from Ozzy's career and personal life.

Tom Hanks: Hanks is a wonderful actor and someone who seems to be an all-around nice guy. I loved him in Forrest Gump, A League of Their Own, Cast Away, Larry Crowne... And who can forget all the great films he did with Meg Ryan?

This is one of my favorite scenes from A League of Their Own. Dottie (Geena Davis) has quit the team right before the World Series, and Jimmy (Hanks) gives her a piece of advice that I think of often when I'm writing:

And for something lighter, here's a clip from an interview Hanks did on The Oprah Winfrey Show. She asks him what he does when he's just at home being Tom Hanks, and his answer is hilarious (if a little uncouth):

It's your turn: Which celebrity would you like to meet?

    2. Oh! Tom Selleck. He is classic and so amazingly handsome and the epitome of a man!

  2. If I were able to meet her on her own, with no guards or anyone else and I could actually have a conversation with her, The Queen. She's ruled the Commonwealth since my grandma was my age and must have loads of stories!

  3. When I think of Tom Hanks, I always think of the SNL monologue he did about being such a nice guy. He's one of my favorites. I'd also want to me David Byrne. He seems to look at the world in a different way, and I love his music.

  4. Hmmmm interesting question. I've been told that Brad Pitt is one of the most down-to-earth nice guys ever to exist - so he would be sort of interesting to meet (although, I'm not particularly fond of his acting).

Oh, duh! How could I forget? I would want to meet Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry!

  5. This is such a good question! I'm not sure what my answer is, though. I'd probably want to meet Kristen Wiig to find out if she's as funny in person as she is on TV.

  6. Interesting you would want to meet Ozzy Osbourne. I'd like to meet Johnny Depp, LOL :)

    have a great day!

Johnny Depp would also be fun to meet! He's taken on such diverse roles that I'm sure he'd have a ton of great stories.

      Have a nice day!

  7. it would have to be Meryl Streep for me. She handles Hollywood with such grace. Also George W. Bush. Regardless of politics, he seems genuine, and I think w/ 9-11, that defined his presidency. I can't imagine how that would change a man.

    2. I agree on the Bush thing. I think there is so much more to him than was ever portrayed in the press. No one gets to presidency by being as stupid as they made him seem. I think there is a lot to that man and I think he would be very interesting to meet. I've heard he has quite a commanding presence in person, which seems so different from how he comes across.

    3. mare: I agree about Meryl Streep.

mare and Melanie: Yes, I feel much the same way about George W. Bush. He does seem genuine, and I would be honored to shake his hand.

  10. I'd love to meet Tim McGraw because he's super-sexy and he sings awesome country songs. Also, Taylor Swift because she's fun and adorable, and my daughter and I both know the lyrics to ALL of her songs. Fun question, Dana!

I don't know much about Tim McGraw's music, but I do think he's cute. :) Taylor Swift seems like a Tom Hanks kind of person--genuine and down-to-earth. She'd probably be fun to talk to.

  11. I LOVE Tom Hanks, and A League of Their Own is one of my all-time favorite movies. I just love everything about it - especially him. Honestly, if I could meet one famous person I have no idea who that would be. Do I pick some dude I find incredibly sexy and hope that he is hot for me too? Do I pick someone emotionally and intellectually stimulating? I just don't know, but I'm pretty sure it would turn out to be a musician or an author. Maybe Michael Stipe from REM or Maya Angelou for me.

  12. This is a difficult question. I would get all embarrassed and tongue-tied meeting anyone. Though it would be awesome to meet Joss Whedon. Or I could sit there and drool over Alexander Skarsgard.

  13. I'd like to meet two: Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellern. I'm sure their stories would be entertaining and informative and to get the two of them to do the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet would be hilarious. (Ian would have to be Juliet as he's got the hair)

  14. I think Johnny Depp would be cool to meet. I love his acting, and it seems like you often read about him doing something really nice when he didn't have to. And definitely Hillary Clinton!

  19. Tom Hanks would be a good guy to meet. I think he's a great actor. I also think Meryl Streep would be an interesting person to meet. If I could meet famous writers, I'd like to meet Jane Yolan or Kate DiCamillo, since they write in the sames genres I do.

  21. I love Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Christopher Walken, Meryl Streep...so many I admire. But would I want to actually meet them? Not especially. I think I'd prefer to love their movies and leave them to partial mystery, you know? ;)

  22. I would like to meet the star of Hawaii Five-0, Alex O'Loughlin. :) Or John Cusack - another favorite film actor.

This was fun and I enjoyed reading of your encounter with Scott Speedman - I loved that show, too.

  24. Dana I too am very fond of Ozzies singing and Tom Hanks is awesome. I would love to meet Gerhard Butler but then he will think I am a zombie because I think my mouth will hang open. I have never met a big celebrity. I did one day watch my friend draw money from the ATM right next to an SA celeb, he stood right next to him and then walked back to the car. He was very amused when I told him that he was right next to a celeb and never noticed.
