Sunday inspiration

Happy Sunday, friends!

I don't know about you, but if there's one thing I absolutely need in order to start each day, it's coffee. I love the taste (and that great smell!), and I definitely need the caffeine boost after the four or five hours of sleep I get each night. The coffee I drink isn't fancy—I usually just brew it in my kitchen—but over the years, I've seen some amazing coffee art created by very talented coffee artists like the ones featured in these two videos.

The first video presents the latte art of Chris Phillips. You can find out a bit more about him at his Web site. And in the second video, you can see some absolutely unbelievable 3-D coffee art created by Japanese cappuccino painter Kazuki Yamamoto, who piles up foam to make gravity-defying designs. You can read more about him here.  Enjoy!

Wishing you all a creative and inspirational Sunday. ☺

Six-word Saturday

Perfect morning: coffee, quiet, many words.

My house is quiet, my kids and husband still asleep. I've been awake for quite a while though, sipping coffee, reading, and writing. I can't think of a better way to start my weekend!

Wishing you all a peaceful and relaxing Saturday. ☺

Six-Word Saturday

Not enough coffee in the world...

The weekends just keep getting busier and busier.
Today we're getting our family picture taken; next week we'll bring the kids to see Santa.
Our Saturday to-do list goes on and on at this time of year.

Whatever your plans, I hope you have a happy weekend!

The push and pull

Today's 100 words:

I stayed up too late reading again last night. I never mean to--I know how deeply tired I am and how much my body and mind crave rest since my first child was born five years ago. Before, I used to drink coffee in the mornings because I liked the taste. Now I drink it because I need it to push me closer to awake. Still, as anyone who reads knows, it's hard to put a good book down--no matter the time, no matter how tired, no matter the push/pull of reading love and need for sleep.

For the memories

A recent 100-words entry:

It's hard to get up in the early mornings when the world is still pitch-black and even the sound of traffic in this large city is muted. The lights seem almost too bright for my eyes as I sit here at the computer, willing the words to come, willing the coffee to seek a path through my muddled brain and force coherent syllables from my fingertips to the keyboard to this white box where I type each day, squeezing thoughts from my tired mind, thoughts that maybe someday I'll be happy to look back on and grateful to have.

Slow down

Although the day ended beautifully--warm weather and sunny skies--it started out quite gloomy, hence this morning's 100 words:

It's rainy today, dark and gray, and I don't feel like doing much of anything. I certainly don't feel like making a trip to the post office and another one to Sears, lugging the stroller out of the back of the van, strapping in the youngest, all the while getting soaked as the rain pours down. Today is a day that should be spent inside, reading books with the kids, writing, drinking hot coffee while wrapped up in a warm blanket on the couch. I welcome these gloomy days--they remind me to slow down, take time out, enjoy life.

Waiter, I need more coffee here

I need to start getting more sleep; these five-hour nights are killing me. If someone could please tell me how to fit a full day of mothering and writing and cleaning and errand-running and wife-ing and reading into fewer than nineteen hours, I would be most appreciative. Thank you.

Ugh. I've got to get more sleep.
