Weeding my bookshelves (and book boxes)

As much as I hate to do it, I've finally decided that I have to give away some of my books. I no longer have room for them, especially as the kids get older and their things take up more and more space in our tiny house. I'll keep my favorite ones, of course, but I plan on donating most of the others to the library or to the Salvation Army.

Have any of you ever weeded your bookshelves? I feel like I'm giving away my kids...

  1. I haven't had to do it for a long, long time. It used to be that I'd come on hard times once a year, then trek down to the bookstore, the better to rid myself of books and obtain dollars in their stead. The thought of doing so now pains me; if I'm lucky, the only books I'll ever have to give away again will be the ones I really have no interest in keeping!

  2. I did that once, then a year or so later, went on eBay and bought back most of the ones I'd sold. I love my books! :-)

  3. Now you're making me nervous! LOL I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to go through with the purge. Maybe if I can get my husband to add on an extra room... ;-)

  4. Deb: I used to do that in college--sell my books when I needed food. I remember selling The English Patient to one of my fellow TAs because I wanted to go to Taco Bell...
