Homebody

Today's 100 words:

Growing up, I was always somewhat of a homebody. I attended a college that was only about an hour and a half away from my hometown, and I had no intention of beginning my career too far away from my family. As my graduation from graduate school neared, though, I realized that college teaching jobs were scarce in Upper Michigan, and, finding myself carried forward by the momentum of my friends' enthusiasm for the job hunt, I applied for work all over the country. The result: I was offered and accepted a job in Nebraska, so very far from home.

  1. It didn't even occur to me I could leave Eugene until after I'd graduated from college. It was only halfway through law school that I realized I could've moved to L.A. just because I wanted to. Fortunately, that awareness did benefit me in early 2008, when I moved back down here to see what my future might look like here. Turns out that, despite some sad moments, the answer was, "Pretty sweet!"

  2. It's so interesting to look back over our choices, isn't it? And to think about where they've led us.

  3. I look back sometimes and think about the better choices I could have made, but if I had made those choices, I wouldn't be where I am now--very happy and very blessed. :)
