It's done! |
Today is my son's sixth birthday! I was up all night baking and decorating his Mario cake—four layers with buttercream icing and homemade fondant decorations—and right now I think I could easily fall asleep on my keyboard.
Anyway, I won't be around much today as we celebrate our son's big day (and I take a nap), but I'm looking forward to catching up with your blogs tomorrow. Happy Thursday! ☺
You could at least post a picture of the masterpiece! Pretty please. Enjoy the celebration and your nap.
ReplyDeleteThe photo, as you requested. :)
DeleteThanks! I think it'll be a good day.
That's great! Your little guy must be excited! If that were my cake, I'd be studying it and debating whether to eat the cloud or a Mario.
DeleteHe chose a star. :)
DeleteThanks!
Wowww!! That's fabulous! Seriously impressive! Want to make me a cake for my birthday tomorrow? ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!
DeleteThanks. I'm a cake-baking amateur, and I just breathed a sigh of relief that I don't have to make another one until July. ;)
You made that? Awesomeness! Hope your son has a wonderful birthday!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kyra. He had a great day!
DeleteIt looks awesome! Happy birthday! Create memories and let us have a peak at the pictures!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Adriana. Our son had a lot of fun at playing at the children's museum yesterday. It was a good day. ☺
DeleteGreat cake and I hope you and your family have a great time celebrating.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sally. We really had a fun day. :)
DeleteThat is just amazingly cute! I'm sure he will be so thrilled with it! I love Mom's who do homemade birthday cakes, they will be treasured memories for all the years to come! Hope you manage to sneak in that nap, so you don't fall asleep in your cake! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Josie. :)
DeleteI actually didn't get a nap. We took the kids to the children's museum to play, and I found myself kind of swaying as I was standing and watching them. I was so tired I could have fallen asleep anywhere!
Awesome, my sons would have loved that when they were kids, I think Mario it is what set my son on the road to being a Video Game designer. Where is Bowser?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bill.
DeleteMaybe Bowser is on vacation? ;) I left out a lot of the characters. My son is just starting to play Mario games on the Wii, so I decided to stick to the characters he's familiar with. ☺
Fantastic cake. I'm a shop-bought cake provider, but I wish I could be as artistic as you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Annalisa. I'm not very artistic, but I do love working on the kids' birthday cakes. I do very little baking the rest of the year!
DeleteLovely cake! your so creative, Dana! Happy birthday to your Son, and enjoy your nap:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melgie. I'll pass your birthday wishes on to my son. :)
DeleteI didn't get my nap yesterday, but I slept pretty well last night. I think I need a few more hours to catch up, though!
What a cute cake, Dana, but I am sure TONS of work!! Happy birthday to your son! I hope he has a great day!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Sherry. I always make my husband cut the cake. :)
DeleteI'll pass your birthday wishes on to my son. ☺
Amazing job you did on that cake! I remember the Mario years. Feels like only yesterday, then one day they are 17 and 22. Tell your son happy birthday from the strangers in your computer!
ReplyDeleteI will! Thanks!
DeleteBest. Cake. Ever. I'm in awe!
ReplyDeleteThat's nice of you to say. Thanks, Rebecca. :)

What a great job! I know he loved it! Happy Birthday to the big boy :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing cake! You have such patience.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I always come to a point about midway through the process when I want to chuck the whole thing out the window. Ha!
DeleteI love the cake! Great job - all of your hard work looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Krista. :)
DeleteYour cake is amazing! I've never baked a regular cake from scratch. I can't imagine creating something like this. A few months ago I decided to make oatmeal cookies for the first time. After I put them in the oven, I realized that I used cornmeal instead of flour:) It turned out that I accidently made gluten-free cookies. Your son is very lucky!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a happy accident! How did they taste?
DeleteThanks. :)
They were actually really yummy.
Deletegreat job Dana. i love it. Happy birthday to your son.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I'll let him know. ☺
Deletefabulous! you rockin mom, you!
