Yesterday was one of those days. You know the kind I'm talking about: nothing seems to go as you'd planned, and everything about the day feels frenzied and chaotic. Thinking back, though, I can pick out several good things that happened, proving, I suppose, that every cloud does have a silver lining and it's the little things that count:
☺ I wrote a scene for my novel while sitting with my daughter at storytime.
☺ I had a nice conversation with a friend.
☺ I allowed myself to take a nap.
☺ I had an idea for a poem while I was walking into the grocery store with my three-year-old.
☺ It rained, and I always seem to be more creative when the skies are stormy and gray.
☺ There was a bottle of wine in the refrigerator to share with my husband once the kids were in bed.
☺ Supper wasn't too much work, and neither was the cleanup.
☺ In spite of all the craziness of the day, I was happy. I am happy.
What's good in your world today?
Wishing you all a Thursday filled with many blessings. ☺
you seem to have had a great day! I hope you'll have many more of those!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks. I wish the same for you!
DeleteTons of blessings today and my youngest is going to the zoo, so his Kindergartner excitement was absolutely contagious. :)
ReplyDeleteDoesn't that just warm your heart? My kindergarten son's class will be going to visit a farm next month, and seeing his eyes light up with excitement brings a huge smile to my face. :)
DeleteYep, those sparkles they get are the best. I don't know when they outgrow it, but I sure appreciate it when it's around. :)
DeleteSame here. :)
DeleteIt's excellent that you took the time to pick out the good things from that hectic day. I think it's a great way of letting go of the day's annoyances. :)
ReplyDeleteIt sure helped. ☺
DeleteToday was one of those days where it was getting prepaired for the next two weeks of work we have to do. You could say the calm before the storm.
ReplyDeleteI hope that storm won't be too bad, Bill. Good luck!
DeleteThose are wonderful events. With my life I tend to focus on the blessings rather than the trials because there will be plenty of both each day. Glad to see a like minded person.
ReplyDeleteI try. Some days it's easier than others. :)
DeleteThank you for the reminder to focus on the good among the not-so-good! When I feel overwhelmed or cranky or upset, I try to take a few deep breaths and see what the lesson is, what a positive takeaway might be, etc. It's not always easy to see it in the moment, so I settle for looking back on the day and finding those things then. :)
ReplyDeleteI need to be better at seeing the good in the moment. Taking a few deep breaths in stressful situations is a great idea. Thanks! ☺
DeleteCoincidentally, another blog's post mentioned that rain can be a nice background to creativity. I agree, it can be. I wish we could just have some blue to go with the gray and have the blue stay around for longer than 5 minutes. :) Ah well...
ReplyDeleteYeah, taking stock of what went well in a day can be forgotten when the day is not going well over all. I am glad you had positives to look back on. I think there is usually something good somewhere if we look past the things that get in our way, when we can.
Happy Thursday to you as well!
I agree. I really do think there's always a positive, no matter how hard and chaotic the day was. It's the "when we can" part you mention that's hard. :)
DeleteYes, you can always take something positive, I wish you a good job in his novel!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Leovi. ☺
DeleteIs it really Thursday? Already? I'm still on staycation so ... things are going pretty frickin' well. And all and all, doesn't sound like it's all that bad your way either.
ReplyDeleteCheers and boogie boogie.
It's much better here now that I realized that good things did happen yesterday, in spite of all the chaos. :)
DeleteEnjoy your staycation!
Thanks.
DeleteIn answer to your comment on my blog, I am super serious about my treadmill sneakers. I ONLY wear them on that machine, his name is Monster, and no where else.
Totally worth the money. Though not that pair. They are no where near as good as my last pair.
I need to stop procrastinating. Our treadmill's been calling to me since January. I call it the dreadmill...
DeleteWhat a beautiful post! Your day really WAS full of beautiful little things.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kate. I just had to look a little harder to find them. :)
DeleteIt's a blessing not to forget to see the positive side or the small gratitudes. I'm doing that today. :) :)
ReplyDeleteIt really is a blessing. ☺
DeleteWhen nothing seems to go right, its easy to ignore the good things and let the negativity take over. I have several things I could complain about right now, but instead, I'm going to be happy that somebody killed a spider for me and that I have the entire day to do what I want. I think some writing is in order. =)
ReplyDeleteYay for the spider killer! (I hate that job.) Have fun with the writing. I haven't had time to do any today, but I'm crossing my fingers I'll get some done tonight. :)
DeleteNaps are good. I need one of those! Good luck with your novel. It sounds like you have a good start.
ReplyDeleteThanks. The book is going well so far.
DeleteI love naps! I wish I could take them more often, especially now that it's getting so hot here. Since it's too hot to do anything, I may as well rest, right? :)
What a beautiful day! :) You are so right- it's the little things that count :) Have another wonderful day !
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rebecca. I hope yours was a good one, too!
DeleteAll the best with your novel! We should count our blessings!
ReplyDeleteNas
We really should.
DeleteThank you, Nas. :)
It's the little things that make a joyful day! (Although writing a chapter of a novel and getting an idea for a poem seem like mighty big things to me.)
ReplyDeleteYes, it really is the little things. ☺
DeleteIt hit 90 today. The warmest since last summer. I'm pretty darn happy.
ReplyDeleteIt hit 90 here today, too. I have to say I don't like it one bit. (I'm a 65-degrees-is-warm-enough kind of gal.) LOL Glad you're enjoying it! :)
DeleteThe good thing about today being over is that I only have to listen to the bubble book 11 more times!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the bubble book is, but I'm happy for you!
DeleteHave a great Friday.
I got one more day until my vacation, so that's what good in my world
ReplyDeleteThat is a reason to be happy. Enjoy your vacation!
DeleteI had a simple dinner of crackers, cheese and wine and somehow it hit the spot. Yes I'm happy too.
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious!
DeleteI went to my friends house yesterday, we had so much talking. I love your post!:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melgie.
DeleteIsn't it great to spend quality time with friends? I went over to my friend's house a couple of days ago, and it was so nice to talk to another adult for a while. :)
Yes it really IS the little things. And hey, any day with a nap involved is pretty darn good in my book :)
ReplyDeleteMine too. :)
DeleteLittle can add up to great blessings.
ReplyDeleteThey can indeed. ☺
DeleteIt's always helpful to look for the good things, isn't it? I have chaotic days often, and at the end of the day, I try to review the day and find SOMETHING that went well. :-)
ReplyDeleteI try to do that, too. I think it helps me gain perspective. :)
