It's the little things...

Happy Thursday, friends!

Yesterday was one of those days. You know the kind I'm talking about: nothing seems to go as you'd planned, and everything about the day feels frenzied and chaotic. Thinking back, though, I can pick out several good things that happened, proving, I suppose, that every cloud does have a silver lining and it's the little things that count:

☺ I wrote a scene for my novel while sitting with my daughter at storytime.

☺ I had a nice conversation with a friend.
☺ I allowed myself to take a nap.
☺ I had an idea for a poem while I was walking into the grocery store with my three-year-old.
☺ It rained, and I always seem to be more creative when the skies are stormy and gray.
☺ There was a bottle of wine in the refrigerator to share with my husband once the kids were in bed.
☺ Supper wasn't too much work, and neither was the cleanup.
☺ In spite of all the craziness of the day, I was happy. I am happy.

What's good in your world today?

Wishing you all a Thursday filled with many blessings. ☺

  2. Tons of blessings today and my youngest is going to the zoo, so his Kindergartner excitement was absolutely contagious. :)

    1. Doesn't that just warm your heart? My kindergarten son's class will be going to visit a farm next month, and seeing his eyes light up with excitement brings a huge smile to my face. :)

    2. Yep, those sparkles they get are the best. I don't know when they outgrow it, but I sure appreciate it when it's around. :)

  3. It's excellent that you took the time to pick out the good things from that hectic day. I think it's a great way of letting go of the day's annoyances. :)

  4. Today was one of those days where it was getting prepaired for the next two weeks of work we have to do. You could say the calm before the storm.

  5. Those are wonderful events. With my life I tend to focus on the blessings rather than the trials because there will be plenty of both each day. Glad to see a like minded person.

  6. Thank you for the reminder to focus on the good among the not-so-good! When I feel overwhelmed or cranky or upset, I try to take a few deep breaths and see what the lesson is, what a positive takeaway might be, etc. It's not always easy to see it in the moment, so I settle for looking back on the day and finding those things then. :)

    1. I need to be better at seeing the good in the moment. Taking a few deep breaths in stressful situations is a great idea. Thanks! ☺

  7. Coincidentally, another blog's post mentioned that rain can be a nice background to creativity. I agree, it can be. I wish we could just have some blue to go with the gray and have the blue stay around for longer than 5 minutes. :) Ah well...

Yeah, taking stock of what went well in a day can be forgotten when the day is not going well over all. I am glad you had positives to look back on. I think there is usually something good somewhere if we look past the things that get in our way, when we can.

Happy Thursday to you as well!

    1. I agree. I really do think there's always a positive, no matter how hard and chaotic the day was. It's the "when we can" part you mention that's hard. :)

  9. Is it really Thursday? Already? I'm still on staycation so ... things are going pretty frickin' well. And all and all, doesn't sound like it's all that bad your way either.

    Cheers and boogie boogie.

    2. Thanks.

In answer to your comment on my blog, I am super serious about my treadmill sneakers. I ONLY wear them on that machine, his name is Monster, and no where else.

Totally worth the money. Though not that pair. They are no where near as good as my last pair.

    3. I need to stop procrastinating. Our treadmill's been calling to me since January. I call it the dreadmill...

  12. When nothing seems to go right, its easy to ignore the good things and let the negativity take over. I have several things I could complain about right now, but instead, I'm going to be happy that somebody killed a spider for me and that I have the entire day to do what I want. I think some writing is in order. =)

    1. Yay for the spider killer! (I hate that job.) Have fun with the writing. I haven't had time to do any today, but I'm crossing my fingers I'll get some done tonight. :)

    1. Thanks. The book is going well so far.

I love naps! I wish I could take them more often, especially now that it's getting so hot here. Since it's too hot to do anything, I may as well rest, right? :)
