Ha! Take that, Magic Cookie Bars!
I'd been promising my three-year-old daughter all week that we'd do some baking, so yesterday we made this recipe for Magic Cookie Bars. Talk about decadent! Chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, walnuts, sweetened condensed milk, coconut... These bars are definitely not low-cal!
Now, I'm a huge chocoholic, but for the past couple of weeks I've been trying hard to lose a few pounds for summer. I knew these bars would be my nemesis if I let them—but I didn't! I ate half of a bar, exercised away the calories on the treadmill (which took me about forty grueling minutes), and said sayonara to the rest of the pan. They're good, but for me, they're just not worth the calories (and the work it takes to burn those calories). The rest of the family can have them. Take that, Magic Cookie Bars!
Wishing you all a wonderful Saturday. ☺
NOW I see what drew you to comment on my blog!
ReplyDeleteChocolate is my downfall! :)

Yes, great memories—and my daughter is becoming quite the little baker. :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by.
Ooops! That should have been this blog!
ReplyDeletehave a great saturday
ReplyDeleteYou too, friend.
Delete:) Hi Dana ~~ Those sound really good. Too bad you can't have more of them. My suggestion is to make a batch with smaller sized pieces. Then set them aside for one day at a time. You could have one for breakfast, one later with coffee, and one at bedtime.
ReplyDeleteLet the others do what their condition warrants. Growing kids need the calories.
Oh yes, please save one for me. Thank you. It would have to be sans the walnuts. At my age my colonoscopy doctor says no nuts, no seeds, no corn, no ...
..
When I make the next batch (sans walnuts), you'll be the first to know! :)
DeleteThanks for the suggestions. I have to say that having a bar with my coffee sounds really good right now, but the time on the treadmill does not. I'll stick to cereal. LOL
Ahh I've had those before! I usually make it through a bite or two though. They're delicious but too sweet for me.
ReplyDeleteIt's summertime! If you can make it outside for a run you should do that - much easier on the mind :)
Happy 6WS.
Yes, they're definitely sweet!
DeleteI'm weird: I don't enjoy warm weather. That's why I stick to the treadmill in my nice, cool house. :)
Happy Saturday!
Congrats on the willpower!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope it lasts. :)
DeleteWe used to make them, too. Used to. You have more strength than I, refusing them. That's why we don't make them anymore.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure we won't be making them often. I don't know if my willpower is that strong!
DeleteOkay, so you are now officially my hero -- truly an AMAZING feat! Couldn't do it myself...you are a brave, brave woman ;p
ReplyDeleteTo stop halfway through a chocolat bar is an amazing achievement!
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, I never thought I could do it!
Delete"Oh my goodness; it's Saturday, again?"
ReplyDeleteWell done, Dana on the self-control! And the baking for your daughter.
Blessings and Bear hugs!

Yes, the weeks do fly by! Great six!
DeleteThanks so much. I've been trying to do more things with her: baking, crafting, playing games... It's been a lot of fun. :)
Wow, you can resist chocolate? Strong woman! Haha.
ReplyDeleteThe thought of having to walk on the treadmill for forty minutes to burn the calories makes me strong. LOL
DeleteMMMMMmmm....love chocolate here too. There's a great recipe on the Muesli pkg...I cannot stop baking those cookies...and eating almost all of them! (Double the chocolate chips and use butter instead of applesauce for the full fat/yummy factor!)
ReplyDeleteToo hot here today to fir up the oven though.
Happy Saturday!
As far as I'm concerned, a cookie isn't a cookie unless it has chocolate chips! I'll have to look for that recipe. :)
DeleteYes, you're right, I also I have to rethink my addiction to chocolate!
ReplyDeleteI used to eat it every day.
DeleteHappy weekend!
I love those bars, and just have to give in! ;) Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks. You too!
DeleteYou have much more willpower than I possess, that's for sure! LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteI think I must hate exercise more than I love chocolate. LOL
DeleteOoh, Rick would love those. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. My husband loves them; he can't stay away from them. :)
DeleteBravo for willpower!!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from 6WS
Thanks. I didn't know I had it in me. LOL
DeleteChocolate AND cookies in a bar?! Sounds like my idea of heaven. :-)
ReplyDeleteThey're pretty close. :)
DeleteGood for you! I wish I had an ounce of self control.
ReplyDeleteNow that I know how long it will take me to burn one off on the treadmill, I never want to see those bars again. Haha!
DeleteIf I had one I would eat them all I am a big time cookie monster so I try not to buy or bake them girl you have control
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I would eat them if I weren't exercising. I despise the treadmill, and knowing I would have to walk almost forty minutes just to burn off one tiny bar keeps me far, far away from them. :)
DeleteGood for you! I have to keep away from the good stuff, too.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard sometimes, but I think it's worth it. ☺
DeleteI wish I had your self-control!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had this kind of self-control more often. LOL
DeleteDana,
ReplyDeleteOoh! Magic cookie bars! Haven't tried them, but reading the recipe alone drives my glucometer up 20 points.
They're definitely incredibly sweet!
DeleteChocolate is magic.
ReplyDeleteOh, it is indeed. ☺
DeleteI agree with McGuffy Ann!
ReplyDeleteYep, you can't argue with that statement. :)
DeleteHello Dana,
ReplyDeleteFrom a chocoholic to another, you are stronger than I'am, I couldn't easily resist that magic cooky bars.
Happy SWS and bon appetit (even if it's too late...Smiles)
Grace
Thanks so much, Grace. :)
DeleteAhhh, those sound good. I've lost an entire pants (going on two!) size though, so keep those things away from me! haha
ReplyDeleteThe recipe sounds yummy but chocolate is definitely the enemy to me!
ReplyDeleteI'm learning to stay away from it, too. *sigh*
DeleteI would have eaten the other half for you!
ReplyDeleteSince I'm not eating them, we have a ton left. Come on over!
DeleteYou are a stronger woman than I.
ReplyDeleteAs the days go by, it gets harder and harder to stay strong. :)
DeleteDana its Friday and I'm only just catching up on SWS posts!!! I have been SO busy!
ReplyDeleteNow the thing I find with baking is this....the goodies always need eating!!! And this is sometimes not so good, well not for the waistline anyway! Lv Jess xxx
You're so right about that! I was really good though, and I only ate that one tiny piece. My husband cleaned up the rest. LOL
DeleteI hope you have a quieter weekend. :)
