Where does the time go?

A princess cake for my 4-year-old princess!
Happy fourth birthday to my little princess!

This year she told me she wanted a princess cake, and then she named all her favorite princesses. (It turns out that every princess is her favorite.) After a little more questioning, I was able to find out that her favorite favorite princess right now is Disney's Sofia the First, so that's the one I chose for her cake. The frosting and some of the decorations look blue in the photo, but they're actually purple—one of my daughter's many favorite colors.

As usual, I started my baking after the kids went to bed and was up until around 3 a.m. putting on the finishing touches. I'd love a nap, but I promised my daughter I'd take her and her brother to the children's museum today, so that's what we'll do. I'm looking forward to catching up with your blogs tomorrow!

    The time is like the wheels on the bus — goes round and round. On the clock. Most Humans, I have discovered, are terrible at estimating the time it will take to do something. (I even read a scientific report about that.)

    What a great job on that cake! I love the age 4. Kids are beginning to grow up, they are so interested in everything, but still small enough to squeeze and smooch on. :-) My girl, 33, was in a car accident last week. (I wrote a post about it.) Made me REALLY reflect on how precious it is to have a daughter.

    Where does the time go? I still remember when my brother and sister were in preschool and would greet me with balloons when I came for an annual visit. Now they're almost out of high school and I'm the one bringing presents. :-)

    Beautiful cake. I always have fun making my kids' cakes. They're never fancy, I'm no cake decorator, but I've had some good ones over the years. For 2 years in a row I did princess cakes for my daughter, and when we get to her 6th birthday, what does she want? A spider cake. She doesn't even like spiders, won't touch them. That one was cool though.

    My favorite easiest cake though was for my son at his 3rd birthday. He was into construction vehicles and I bought a large (meaning 15" long, 8" high) yellow dumptruck. Made a chocolate cake and broke it up into pieces and filled the box on the truck. No frosting and it was pretty cool.

    you are such a great Mom! What a cake!!! My mom was a fabulous cook except for desserts- once I was old enough Betty Crocker and I made family Birthday cakes!
    Your cake looks so perfect- your daughter must have been thrilled! Now- go take a nap!

    Such a glorious cake! This post reminded me of the nights my mother spent baking cakes for my birthdays and the umpteen other things I needed help with.

    Time goes to trips to Disney. Then to Tee ball games. Then to braces. Then to driving lessons. Then to waiting up when your little girl is on a date. Then to dance recitals. Then to watching your son pitch in the championship game and consoling him when he didn't do as well as he would have liked. Then to college tuition. Then to wedding presents. Then back to Tee Ball games. Then to family gatherings when you fall asleep in a chair because maybe you shouldn't have had the at one Coors Lite.
    It's all a wonderful, exhilarating ride. And I don't plan on getting off for quite some time.

      Thanks! I always want the cake to be a surprise—hence the late nights. Maybe when the kids get older, I can bake while they're still awake, but I'm not in a hurry for those days. :)
