Back in school—and loving it!
Last April, some of my poet friends told me about a wonderful free poetry course offered through Coursera, Modern & Contemporary American Poetry. I checked it out and signed up right away, and I'm looking forward to its start in September. I also signed up for some other great courses, and this week I began my first one, History of Rock, Part 2. I'm really enjoying the lectures and the discussions. It's been many years since I graduated with my master's degree—seventeen, actually. Yikes!—but I've always missed being in school, and now it's great to be back!
Have you ever taken a Coursera course? Would you?
Wishing you all a happy Saturday. ☺
Sounds wonderful! I tried to click the link but a box came up saying 'function disabled'. Is it an online course?
ReplyDeleteThe link is working for me. I wonder what that message means? Maybe someone else will have some insight.
DeleteYes, it's an online course, and so far, it's been a lot of fun. I recommend it. :)
Good for you, Dana!!! ~~ No, I did not know about Coursera. I looked it up before I started your comment. This looks really great! I may try it.
ReplyDeleteI too graduated with an advanced degree and thought I had enough courses that helped my career, etc. But I did want to take, auditing or for credit, all of the Shakespeare courses I could find.
I did go back to college and taught Business Law and other business courses for 22 years before retiring. I really do like the campus atmosphere.
..
I miss being on campus, either teaching there as I did for several years or taking classes. You're right; it's a great atmosphere.
DeleteLet me know if you decide to try Coursera. I'd love to hear what you think.
I tried your link, Dana, and it worked good for me. I am in London now but so is T Bud so that should not have mattered. When I looked them up I Googled Coursera.
ReplyDelete..
Thanks for checking. ☺
DeleteNo, I've never taken one of their courses, because I'd never heard of them before. Sounds great! I'd definitely consider taking a course with them, because I'm an information junkie. Let us know how the course goes for you.
ReplyDeleteI definitely will. So far, I'm really enjoying it.
DeleteThe thought of going back to school appalls I'm afraid, even having to go to college for my apprenticeship did not appeal but was an evil necessity but I have to admire people who manage to do it. Have a great weekend
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bill. I hope you do, too.
DeleteI loved school, learning new things.
ReplyDeleteSame here. :)
DeleteI started taking a coursera course at the end of last year (something on neurochemistry) but didn't have the time to keep up with it....because I also decided to go back to school (where I actually have to pay tuition) to finish another degree. What can I say? I really love school. But coursera did have some great course offerings, so maybe I'll revisit it when I have some more free time - probably around when my 10-year-old graduates from med school.
ReplyDeleteHappy 6WS!!
I'd love to go back for another degree, too. Best of luck with all your clases!
DeleteI hope you enjoy your course. Going back to school is not on my bucket list!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The only thing I'm not enjoying about it at the moment is that I'm already behind on the video lectures. Argh! ;)
DeleteI might give it a try
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you do. I'd love to hear what you think. ☺
DeleteI haven't bud do consider it...
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad I signed up. :)
DeleteGood for you! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbie!
DeleteI love going back to school. I always get those memories of starting the semester whenever autumn comes :) I hope you enjoy the course!
ReplyDeleteI love those memories, too—the new books, the never-before-written-in notebooks, the pens filled with all their ink... :)
DeleteThanks!
Hmmmm. Learning to write better poetry. That stimulates this Bear's senses. Need to check that out. Maybe tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteFor six-word Saturday (at 10:00 o'clock in the morning): "It's raining; I'm 'back to bed.'"
I mean, what's the point of a six-word Saturday, if you don't do Saturday in six words?
Blessings and Bear hugs!

Let me know if you sign up for the poetry course. It would be nice to take the class with more people I "know." :)
DeleteI usually like to tell a little more about my six words, which is why I often include a paragraph or two. I think you'll find that many of the participants do the same. (Click the badge to see.)
Have a nice week.
Yes Dana, that a good news, I can't wait to hear about it when you'll start. After all those years, it's a pleasure to feel your enthusiasm. I never heard about coursera but I checked in your link and it's familiar, I saw the equivalent in french and was thinking about attempting to give some but also take some.
ReplyDeleteHappy SWS !!
Grace
Thanks, Grace. I'll definitely let you all know how it goes.
DeleteThe online courses I take are for continuing education credits. I like most of them, but I wish I felt like I had more time to really do it justice. Something always seems to be more important, and all my commitments seem to get crowded together.
ReplyDeleteI hear you. I'm already behind in my video lectures because of other commitments.
DeleteThat's awesome! I'd like to take more classes later in life. I'd be a professional student if I could afford it! :)
ReplyDeleteSo would I!
DeleteHuge proponent of higher ed. here, I'd do it. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck, I hope you continue to love it.
Thank you. ☺
DeleteGood for you! Enjoy it:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandra. :)
DeleteAll the best - you sound so excited and motivated. I love poetry.

Thanks. I'm both of those things. I just hope I'm still motivated by the end of the course. ;)
DeleteYes, it's nice to keep learning about what we like, I love the Rock!
ReplyDeleteSame here. Happy Monday!
DeleteI've never heard of that before! I think I'll have to sign up for some courses after things settle down here. =) Thanks for telling us about it!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Let me know if you decide to take something.
DeleteLooks interesting. Bet I could find something to study... I have a few interests.
ReplyDeleteThere are a ton of great classes. I find it hard to narrow down my favorites. :)
DeleteI wouldn't, because I already have too many irons in the fire.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're having fun.
Enjoy!

I really am. Thanks!
