Don't you hate it when...

you dream about something important and then forget all the details when you wake up?

That happened to me the other night. All day long, I had been thinking about an idea I have for a middle grade novel, but I just couldn't iron out the details, especially the critical one that gives me the reason my main character will be able to do what I need him to do. I was still thinking about my story as I fell asleep that night, and sure enough, I dreamed about it. In my dream, the answer was simple, but when I woke up, poof, it was gone. (Strangely enough, the only word I can remember is magic. It's a good clue, but I wish it helped me more.)

Gah! Back to the drawing board...

Has this ever happened to you? It's frustrating, isn't it?

On a lighter note, this cute dog seems to be having a good dream:

Wishing you all a frustration-free Wednesday. ☺

    1. Thanks! It was the key bit of info I need. I was so frustrated when I woke up and found that I had forgotten it.

  3. Oh, yes I hate when that happens. It was probably an idea you would have had to edit anyway (-: Maybe an even better scene/idea will come to you.

    1. I'm frustrated by this particular incident, but most of the time, I just feel disappointed when I wake up and can't remember a good dream. :)

    1. When I was teaching, I wasn't crazy about work dreams, either. :)

Yes, I got your link. I'm sorry I didn't have time to watch it yesterday. My plan is to watch it once the kids go to bed tonight. Sorry I'm so slow.

  9. Most of the time I am just as glad I don't remember. It is only when my folks appear in a dream that I wish I could remember every single detail.

    1. I agree: some dreams are more worth remembering than others.

      I hope you're having a nice Wednesday.

  10. Just quit thinking about it. I've had dreams that wake me up laughing but I can't recall what was so funny. But later in the day when I've quit agonizing over it, I'll remember.

  11. Happens to me all the time. I have three good stories taking up lots of space in my computer and my brain has frozen the plot and characters--hopefully not forever. LOL

  12. Yes, I have had that happen and I can understand your frustration! Maybe something will trigger that memory of what you dreamed and it will come back to you.

I like the video. I always heard when a dog did that, he/she was dreaming of chasing squirrels. :)

    1. Thanks. I hope it does. I'm really stuck on the "how" of the whole story.

I've heard the same thing about dogs!

  14. How funny, the last blog I was reading gave me deja vu of a dream I had last night, but I can't remember the details! That pup looks a lot cuter than I did, I'm sure. ^.^

  18. I once wrote a really nice poem while I was laying down. I came up with it in my head. Easiest poem I ever wrote. The lines just flowed out of my brain. Then I woke up the next morning and realized that not only did I not write it down before I fell asleep, but I couldn't even remember the topic of it. It still bothers me and that was like three or four years ago.

  20. You may find that when you get to writing the novel the idea comes back. It's just waiting for you to get in front of the PC to start before jumping out at you.

  23. I used to get frustrated over that too. Until the night I had a notebook by my bed and wrote down what I wanted to remember. The next morning I was disappointed to read something like, "What is no one suspects it's magic, but it really is????"

It seems to me my dreams just seemed awesome, but they really made no sense.

  24. I hate when that happens! Or I get an idea, at an inopportune time so don't write it down, and then forget it. *augh*
