Six-word Saturday

Back in school—and loving it!

Last April, some of my poet friends told me about a wonderful free poetry course offered through Coursera, Modern & Contemporary American Poetry. I checked it out and signed up right away, and I'm looking forward to its start in September. I also signed up for some other great courses, and this week I began my first one, History of Rock, Part 2. I'm really enjoying the lectures and the discussions. It's been many years since I graduated with my master's degree—seventeen, actually. Yikes!—but I've always missed being in school, and now it's great to be back!

Have you ever taken a Coursera course? Would you?

Wishing you all a happy Saturday. ☺

  1. Sounds wonderful! I tried to click the link but a box came up saying 'function disabled'. Is it an online course?

    1. The link is working for me. I wonder what that message means? Maybe someone else will have some insight.

Yes, it's an online course, and so far, it's been a lot of fun. I recommend it. :)

  2. Good for you, Dana!!! ~~ No, I did not know about Coursera. I looked it up before I started your comment. This looks really great! I may try it.

I too graduated with an advanced degree and thought I had enough courses that helped my career, etc. But I did want to take, auditing or for credit, all of the Shakespeare courses I could find.

I did go back to college and taught Business Law and other business courses for 22 years before retiring. I really do like the campus atmosphere.

    1. I miss being on campus, either teaching there as I did for several years or taking classes. You're right; it's a great atmosphere.

Let me know if you decide to try Coursera. I'd love to hear what you think.

  3. I tried your link, Dana, and it worked good for me. I am in London now but so is T Bud so that should not have mattered. When I looked them up I Googled Coursera.

  4. No, I've never taken one of their courses, because I'd never heard of them before. Sounds great! I'd definitely consider taking a course with them, because I'm an information junkie. Let us know how the course goes for you.

  5. The thought of going back to school appalls I'm afraid, even having to go to college for my apprenticeship did not appeal but was an evil necessity but I have to admire people who manage to do it. Have a great weekend

  7. I started taking a coursera course at the end of last year (something on neurochemistry) but didn't have the time to keep up with it....because I also decided to go back to school (where I actually have to pay tuition) to finish another degree. What can I say? I really love school. But coursera did have some great course offerings, so maybe I'll revisit it when I have some more free time - probably around when my 10-year-old graduates from med school.

    Happy 6WS!!

    1. I love those memories, too—the new books, the never-before-written-in notebooks, the pens filled with all their ink... :)

      Thanks!

  12. Hmmmm. Learning to write better poetry. That stimulates this Bear's senses. Need to check that out. Maybe tomorrow.

For six-word Saturday (at 10:00 o'clock in the morning): "It's raining; I'm 'back to bed.'"

I mean, what's the point of a six-word Saturday, if you don't do Saturday in six words?

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

    1. Let me know if you sign up for the poetry course. It would be nice to take the class with more people I "know." :)

I usually like to tell a little more about my six words, which is why I often include a paragraph or two. I think you'll find that many of the participants do the same. (Click the badge to see.)

      Have a nice week.

  13. Yes Dana, that a good news, I can't wait to hear about it when you'll start. After all those years, it's a pleasure to feel your enthusiasm. I never heard about coursera but I checked in your link and it's familiar, I saw the equivalent in french and was thinking about attempting to give some but also take some.

    Happy SWS !!

  14. The online courses I take are for continuing education credits. I like most of them, but I wish I felt like I had more time to really do it justice. Something always seems to be more important, and all my commitments seem to get crowded together.
