Guilty as charged!

I'm guilty, and I'm willing to bet you are too. Whether we like to admit it or not, we all have them:

Guilty pleasures.

Today I'm going to fess up to some of mine. Do you dare to join me?

Here they are, in no particular
order--My Guilty Pleasures:

Nutella on a spoon

I've been known to eat an entire jar this way. I confess that I hide it behind the flour canister in the back of the pantry, where the kids can't reach it and my husband never looks.

"Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice

I confess: I still love this song--and, unfortunately for those around me, I still sing it.

Tater Tots

The person who invented Tater Tots is a genius. I confess that I sometimes make them "for the kids" and then eat ninety percent of them myself.

The Real World

I used to watch this show religiously. I don't care for the newer seasons, but I confess that I love the "vintage" shows, especially the one set in Boston, and I still watch it online.

America's Next Top Model

This show has gotten trashier and trashier since it began in 2003, but I can't help myself: I confess that it's still one of my must-see shows. (And it totally counts as character research, right?)

avocados

I know: they're great for us, but they're so calorie-rich that they probably shouldn't be eaten multiple times a week. Like I do. Often. I confess. *sigh*

chocolate

If my non-virtual friends are any indication, this one is probably on a lot of your lists. Right now my guilty pleasure is homemade chocolate pudding with a ton of Cool Whip on top. This must be eaten in secret, of course. I tell the kids that Mommy has some work to do and then I take my bowl into the computer room and close the door. I confess that I don't want to share!

Gossip Girl

despise don't care for the books, but I absolutely love the television series. I confess that I'm heartbroken that the show is ending after next season. Where will I get my Chuck Bass fix?

TMZ

I don't go to this celebrity gossip site often, but I confess that sometimes when I'm bored or can't seem to write, I'll check out a few of the stories. (For research, of course...)

So there you have them: a few of my guilty pleasures. Care to share some of yours?

  1. Some PC games and cakes. Not a good combination when you're already overweight.

  2. Tater tots and chocolate are on my list. My song though is "Getting Jiggy With It" by Will Smith.

    1. Nice list! Do you have any recommendations for good middle-grade books? I have an idea that I think will fit into that category, but I haven't read any of those books for years.

    2. Anything by Jennifer Holm, Kimberly Willis Holt, Deborah Wiles, Ruth White, Lois Lowry, ...just to name a few.

Also some recent reads: May Be by Caroline Starr Rose and The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

    3. Thanks! This helps a lot.

  4. French Vanilla International Coffee
    Survivor and Big Brother--still.
Chocolate, of course, and chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.
Buying up supplies--for art, crafts, or writing. I even "window shop" online for fun since they came out with wish lists.
Playing solitaire and other games online when I should be doing something constructive.
    Ahhhh! Guilty pleasures. ;)

  6. Hi Dana! I was just catching up on your fun posts! The kittens, the bucket list, celebrities, and now, guilty pleasures--what a blast... hmmm, I think your blog just about qualifies! :)

Thank you for making me smile.

  7. Fun post! What a great way to get to know you. :)

I'm with you on the Nutella with a spoon. Yum! It's also good in rice krispie treats!

  8. Right now my guilty pleasure is a little (imported) raspberry preserves with yoghurt. It's simple lol... but you can't get fruit flavoured yoghurt here and so to me it tastes really special!

Loved going through your list :)

  9. Great post! I taught my son to sing Ice Ice Baby. I'm a choco-holic too. I also eat way too many cookies. I can't buy chocolate chip cookies because they're my favorite and they'd be gone within a few days!

  10. With the exception of ANTM, which I've never gotten into, I share all of these. Have you ever tried avocado popsicles? They look disgusting but are really tasty.

    1. I'd never heard of them, but I'm sure I'd like them. :)

  11. Have you ever tried Nutella in ice-cream?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I do the same thing occasionally with Nutella or Nutkao, but mainly because it helps me drink water.

Just before reading this, I had a spoonful of chocolate icing for the same reason. One more spoonful will finish the tub. :-)

    1. I need your willpower. I also eat frosting right out of the container, but I can never, ever stop at a spoonful. :)

  13. I love nutella! I've never eaten it on a spoon, though. I have eaten frosting on a spoon. I do that everytime I frost a cake! (I just looked at the comment above mine. I see I'm not alone :))

  14. I love nutella but I don't buy it OR I do eat the whole jar! :) Chocolate is another one for me and I think wasting time might be up there since I seem to have been doing that all morning! :) I also love driving to wherever, but now with high gas prices I don't do that quite as often. great post!

    1. Thanks, Sharon. :)

I'm also careful with how often I buy Nutella. I have to be!

      Have a great day.

  15. Oh love the list of the guilty pleasures! My biggest is Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey Ice Cream :)

  16. Nutella with a spoon... I might have to try that now. I do like putting it on rolls, yum.

    Guilty Pleasures:
The Secret Life of the American Teenager (terrible show, I just keep watching it over and over)
    Chocolate
    Scooby-Doo fruit snacks

AND I totally love tatter tots too! Yummy!

    1. I watched part of the first season of that show. I agree--the acting is horrible--but somehow the story kept drawing me in.

  17. Your tater tot story reminds me of myself when my girls were babies. I'd open up a little jar of Gerbers plums and eat most of it myself. But back to tots, there's a local restaurant that makes its own tater tots from scratch and wraps them in bacon. Heaven on a plate.

I need to go to that restaurant!

  19. Dana, do you ever watch TMZ on TV?! It's crazy but it's so much fun. I have Ralph watching it, too. Nutella, peanut butter and now Biscoff creamy and crunchy....WITH A SPOON!! The Biscoff is the best though, I can't even buy it. I've gotten the peanut butter under control, but the Biscoff...If you haven't tried it...it is incredible!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've seen that show a few times. You're right: it's crazy!

I saw the Biscoff in the store the other day. It looked so good, but I knew if I brought it home, I would be in trouble. ;)

  20. I'm pretty sure nutella tastes best straight from the spoon! Now you'll have to excuse my ignorance, but what's a tater tot?

To be honest, I don't think I have guilty pleasures. I just have things I like and am too lazy to care about whether they're perceived as being cool or not. Like still loving lego ;)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Tater tots are cylindrical, crispy, deep-fried grated potatoes. (I linked to their Wikipedia page up above if you want to see a picture.) Just thinking about them makes me drool. LOL

I think Legos are great! My kids play with them--and so do I. :)

  21. Chocolate, YA novels, and Criminal Minds. I'm addicted to that show. My husband gave season 2-4 for Christmas, and I'm almost finished season 4. :(

    1. :( It's just like reading a really great book: you don't want it to end. I felt the same way about the TV show Felicity.

  22. The Twilight books and movies are one of my biggest guilty pleasures. I am normally not into that kind of thing at all, but I love them. My mom looked at me like I'd announced I go around kicking puppies or something else truly awful when she found out! And Nacho Cheese Doritos. :-)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. LOL about your mom's reaction!

Nacho Cheese Doritos! I haven't had them in ages, but I think I need some right now. :)

  23. Way too big sugary drinks from Sonic on a hot, hot day when I'm tired and sweaty.

Hoarders. Noone in my family can stand to even be in the room when it's on. I'm fascinated. For some reason.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yay for sugar! (That's my motto. LOL)

I've watched a few episodes of Hoarders. I think it's fascinating in that car-wreck kind of way.

  24. Yikes! I am so out of it... I don't even know what Nutella is! I'm thinking it's like peanut butter?
Guilty pleasures; NAPS on the weekend, a glass of red wine with dinner (even if dinner is scrambled eggs and toast), a hot bath early in the morning, The Good Wife on Netflix

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's similar to peanut butter. It's a spread made of chocolate and hazelnut.

      Love your list!

  25. I do that with Nutella. Except I don't even leave it in the kitchen. Straight to my office. Love avocados and of course chocolate. Now you have me thinking about tater tots.

    1. I keep thinking about them, too.

I broke down and bought an avocado today. It means more time of the treadmill, but it's worth it. :)

  26. I love how you hide your "stash" with the Nutella so no one can find it; I do the same with chocolate when I'm eating it (got to keep it out of the house though :)

All great guilty pleasures you have; definitely mine is chocolate and watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians when I'm at the gym and it is on the TV there. Sure makes the time on the elliptical go by faster :)

    1. I wish I could watch shows while I'm exercising, but our treadmill is in the basement, where there's no TV. I usually read instead, but that gets a little tricky when I really start moving. LOL

  27. ...ice, ice, baby ;)

Holy smokes, haven't heard that one in years!

  28. Big big big yes to avocados and America's Next Top Model.

Can we add Grey's Anatomy on Netflix to this list? When I get in a slump and need to veg out, it's always Grey's Anatomy. Oh and Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia. mmmm

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yay! Another ANTM fan. :)

Would you believe I've never seen Grey's Anatomy? (I know, I know...) ;)

And now I want ice cream. LOL

  29. Nutella on a spoon! Definitely! Spread on a tortilla and rolled up, too. Yum!
